Coalfields Regeneration Trust

Coalfields Regeneration Trust We are the leading UK charitable social enterprise dedicated to supporting Britain's coalfield commun

We were established in 1999 and have invested over £260m in activities that have made a positive and lasting difference to the lives of people and their communities. We know there is a need to continue this work given the challenges that still exist in these communities and we will continue to focus support where it is needed the most. We operate as a social enterprise delivering services that ben

efit our communities. We are also a social investor and will utilise our funds to invest in activity that creates positive social impact and generates a return on investment for us. Our business micro loans will act as a catalyst for individuals looking to start their own business and our small grants will provide much needed support for community organisations. We deliver programmes and services that;
•support people into work
•improve skills and help people gain qualifications
•create pathways into volunteering
•improve health
•develop sustainable solutions for community facilities
•engage young people in positive activities
•grow new businesses and social enterprises
•provide community development support

We work in the heart and soul of coalfield communities, investing resources, expertise and knowledge to ensure local people are able to fulfill their potential. Coalfield communities had a strong history of unity and we have galvanised local people enabling them to participate in building a new positive sense of community. Our teams will continue to develop innovative ways of delivering these services by working with partners, developing consortia and building relationships with funders and commissioners to provide cost effective solutions that generate high social impacts.

We’re working to protect and strengthen community spaces in Welsh coalfield communities.

CRT Hwb Cana in Penywaun had been derelict since 2015 before the Coalfields Regeneration Trust refurbished it and helped bring it back into community use. For Derrick, taking part in IT courses at the hub has helped him build confidence, use digital technology and stay connected with family.

We’re ready to work with the new Welsh Government, Senedd Members, local authorities and partners across Wales to support trusted community assets in the Valleys — places where people can learn, connect and access support closer to home.

The Drongan Family Hub is helping children and families in one of Scotland’s coalfield villages.

The hub provides a free Saturday morning breakfast club and an after-school project for Primary 1 to Primary 7 children. Young people can enjoy sports, arts and crafts, homework, games and food in a safe and supportive space.

It also supports parents by helping with childcare pressures and creating more flexibility to work, look for work or access training.

Strong families need practical local support — and that is what the Drongan Family Hub provides. We look forward to working with the next Scottish Government to continue to support families in coalfield communities.

We’re proud to share that our CRT Engage Meir team has been recognised at the recent Pride of Staffordshire awards 🎉

The team was named joint first runner-up in the Community Project of the Year category – a fantastic achievement that reflects the real impact the programme has been making in the community since launching in 2022.

A big thank you to everyone who voted, and to Desiree Elliott for accepting the award on behalf of the team and championing the positive changes happening in Meir.

CRT Engage is a Coalfields Regeneration Trust programme delivered in partnership with Meir Primary Care Network 💚

We’re working to protect community assets in Wales’s coalfield communities.

In Ystradgynlais, CRT support helped a local organisation through an asset transfer, a heating crisis and the development of a 3G pitch that now supports wider community use. Local people say that without CRT support, “we probably wouldn’t be here” — and that if the site had closed, “there wouldn’t be a youth service running in Ystradgynlais.”

The Next Steps for the Valleys report (2025) says the Valleys are possibly the most disadvantaged former industrial region in Britain, with many communities facing persistent deprivation.

We’re ready to work with Senedd Members, local authorities and partners across Wales to protect the spaces and services communities rely on.

Rydym yn gweithio i ddiogelu asedau cymunedol yng nghymunedau maes glo Cymru.

Yn Ystradgynlais, helpodd cymorth CRT sefydliad lleol drwy drosglwyddo asedau, argyfwng gwresogi a datblygu cae 3G sydd bellach yn cefnogi defnydd ehangach o'r gymuned. Mae pobl leol yn dweud, heb gefnogaeth CRT, "mae'n debyg na fyddem yma" - ac pe bai'r safle wedi cau, "ni fyddai gwasanaeth ieuenctid yn rhedeg yn Ystradgynlais."

Mae adroddiad Camau Nesaf i’r Cymoedd (2025) yn dweud mai'r Cymoedd yw'r hen ranbarth diwydiannol mwyaf difreintiedig ym Mhrydain, gyda llawer o gymunedau yn wynebu amddifadedd parhaus.

Rydym yn barod i weithio gydag Aelodau'r Senedd, awdurdodau lleol a phartneriaid ledled Cymru i ddiogelu'r mannau a'r gwasanaethau y mae cymunedau'n dibynnu arnynt.

CRT Place helps communities shape their future.

Through simple tools, workshops and Local Place Plans, people can identify what matters most in their area and turn it into real influence.

In Scotland’s coalfield communities, that voice has never been more important.

We look forward to working with the next Scottish Government to strengthen this work.

We’re working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to reduce the stress of a cancer diagnosis in Wales’ former coalfield communities.

Our CRT Together link workers support people affected by cancer across the Cwm Taf Morgannwg and Aneurin Bevan health board areas.

Mac got in touch after finding a leaflet in his local library. Through CRT Together, he received local, personalised support and reassurance at a difficult time. He has since become a volunteer driver with Rowan Cancer Trust — helping others and sharing what CRT Together can offer.

In 2025/26, CRT Together completed 641 eHNAs, converted 87% into formal care plans, and contacted 93% of new referrals within 24 hours.

We’re ready to work with the next Welsh Government to support people living with poor health.

Helpu pobl sydd wedi'u heffeithio gan ganser yng Nghymoedd De Cymru

Rydym yn gweithio mewn partneriaeth â Chymorth Canser Macmillan i leihau'r straen o ddiagnosis o ganser yng nghymunedau hen feysydd glo Cymru.

Mae ein gweithwyr cyswllt CRT Together yn cefnogi pobl sydd wedi'u heffeithio gan ganser ar draws ardaloedd bwrdd iechyd Cwm Taf Morgannwg ac Aneurin Bevan.

Cysylltodd Mac â nhw ar ôl dod o hyd i daflen yn ei lyfrgell leol. Trwy CRT Together, derbyniodd gefnogaeth a sicrwydd lleol, wedi'i bersonoli ar adeg anodd. Ers hynny mae wedi dod yn yrrwr gwirfoddol gydag Ymddiriedolaeth Canser Rowan - gan helpu eraill a rhannu'r hyn y gall CRT Together ei gynnig.

Yn 2025/26, cwblhaodd CRT Together 641 o eHNAs, trosi 87% yn gynlluniau gofal ffurfiol, a chysylltu â 93% o atgyfeiriadau newydd o fewn 24 awr.

Rydym yn barod i weithio gyda Llywodraeth nesaf Cymru i gefnogi pobl sy'n byw gydag iechyd gwael.

The CRT Kincardine Hub is more than a building — it’s a space for connection, support and community.

In Scotland’s coalfield communities, higher levels of deprivation and poorer health outcomes mean local spaces like this are essential.

We look forward to working with the next Scottish Government to deliver improved community spaces in Scotland’s coalfields.

We’re helping strengthen community facilities in the Welsh coalfields.

In Penywaun, CRT Hwb Cana has been transformed from a derelict building into a vibrant community hub shaped by local people and focused on what the community needs — from conversations and signposting to training, skills and support.

We look forward to working with the next Welsh Government and partners across Wales to protect and improve community assets in the coalfields.

Rydym yn helpu i gryfhau cyfleusterau cymunedol meysydd glo Cymru.

Ym Mhen-y-waun, mae Hwb Cana Ymddiriedolaeth Adfywio’r Meysydd Glo wedi cael ei drawsnewid o adeilad oedd yn adfail i ganolfan gymunedol fywiog wedi'i siapio gan bobl leol ac sy'n canolbwyntio ar yr hyn sydd ei angen ar y gymuned - o sgyrsiau, cefnogaeth a chyfeirio at hyfforddiant a sgiliau.

Edrychwn ymlaen at weithio gyda Llywodraeth nesaf Cymru a phartneriaid ledled Cymru i ddiogelu a gwella asedau cymunedol yn y meysydd glo.

Really great to welcome Minister of State for Care Stephen Kinnock to officially open the CRT Knottingley Hub and see first-hand the difference this new space will make to the Five Towns.

The CRT Knottingley Hub brings together one-to-one support, health and wellbeing activity, and space for local organisations — all under one roof in the heart of the community.

This opening marks another step in CRT’s long-term commitment to Knottingley and the wider Five Towns, building on over a decade of investment to create lasting opportunities for local people.
