We were delighted to welcome Jo Pearson DL, The High Sheriff of Norfolk, Ian Bishop Bishop of Thetford, and Barbara Bryant, Diocesan Environment Officer, to Banham Zoo during the half-term break.

It was a pleasure to discuss opportunities for collaboration in support of our local community, schools, and the environment. During the visit, we shared updates on the latest developments at Banham Zoo and highlighted recent progress across ZSEA.

Thank you for joining us on site!

We recently welcomed 80 members of the team from TMO Traffic Highways Ltd, who joined us at Banham Zoo over a two-week period to help transform our Woodland Walk and improve biodiversity on site.

The Woodland Walk is home to some incredible wildlife, including more than 90 species of moth, as well as, 11 of the UK's 18 bat species previously recorded here. The work completed along the walk supports our plans to enhance biodiversity and attract even more native species to the site.

Thank you to TMO Highways for your support with this transformative project, to Ben Green, Kirsty Shrubsall and to everyone involved for helping to create a richer habitat for local wildlife.

We were absolutely delighted to welcome Norfolk and Suffolk Music Hub to Banham Zoo on Sunday 7 June for their incredible SENDfest and the magical Savannah Sundown.

From music echoing around the enclosures during the day, to a truly special twilight experience as the sun set, the zoo came alive in a very different way to a usual Sunday, with a day filled with creativity, joy and inclusion.

It was a privilege to open our site for such inspiring events, giving families the chance to explore, create and enjoy music alongside some of the world’s most amazing animals. 🐾🎤

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the day so unforgettable!

Our penguins have moved 🐧

We’re excited to share that our African penguins are enjoying their very own summer holiday while Penguin Cove has some major renovations.

These improvements will not only enhance the welfare of our penguins, including the addition of a secondary pool and improved space to support our work with the breeding programme, but they will also create an even better guest experience, with brand-new glass-fronted viewing areas.

We wouldn't be able to do this without the support of some of our incredible partners, including Ultra Worx Ltd, for fitting the netting provided via PestFix, which is vital in keeping our penguins protected from bird flu, and NCL Contractors, for creating the walk-through element of the habitat.

And once the penguins move back home… we’re excited to welcome a brand-new species 🐧

🌟 Celebrating Our Incredible Volunteers This Volunteers' Week 🌟

As a charity, we simply couldn't do what we do without the dedication, passion, and generosity of our volunteers across Africa Alive and Banham Zoo.

From helping to ensure our guests have a safe and enjoyable visit to supporting our animal care teams with food preparation and husbandry tasks, their contribution touches every corner of our organisation.

This Volunteers' Week, we'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to every one of our volunteers. Your time, enthusiasm, and commitment help us achieve so much more than we could alone, supporting our mission to connect people with wildlife and conservation.

Please join us in celebrating the amazing volunteers who help make Africa Alive and Banham Zoo such special places. 💚

We'd like to say a big thank you to all of the wonderful corporate volunteers from Purina, Marsh Global, Saffron Housing Trust Ltd, and Aviva for their hard work and support at Banham Zoo throughout May.

Across a variety of projects, the teams helped with landscaping, painting, gardening, planting, watering and weeding. Their efforts have made a huge difference, from making improvements in our otter habitat, helping prepare our temporary habitat for our African penguins, maintaining the King’s Volunteer Garden and supporting preparations for fundraising events.

Thank you for all your continued support!

When our partners support our animal’s enrichment 👏

We’d like to say a huge thank you to sleepersandscaffoldboards.co.uk for their generous donation of rolls of turf for our otter habitat.

Their support will help us continue improving and maintaining an enriching environment for our otters, and we truly appreciate their kindness. Our otters are very much enjoying the new addition.

We would also like to say a big thank you to our corporate volunteers from Marsh Global for all their hard work laying the turf!

We’re incredibly grateful to Breakwater IT for their generous donation of an Apple MacBook Pro for our Head of Education, Sara.

A special thank you to John, CEO of Breakwater IT, who took the time to visit us on site to personally present the laptop. Support like this makes a real difference to us and helps provide valuable resources so our funds can be directed where they are needed most.

This weekend, we welcomed 4,500 guests across two nights for Zoo Do at Banham Zoo.

Singers, dance groups, food vendors, foam parties and kids entertainment took over, whilst the zoo welcomed visitors after the gates would normally be closed for the day.

This weekend, we do it all again for Africa by Night at Africa Alive 🌙🦒
