Being part of the lodge isn’t just about attending meetings or taking part in parades. It’s about friendship, supporting one another, getting involved in community activities and helping to carry our traditions forward for future generations.

A little look back at Six Road Ends and how things have changed over the years.

It’s amazing how much a familiar place can change, yet still bring back so many memories for those who grew up or lived in the area.

We’re sure plenty of people will remember Six Road Ends looking a bit different from how it does today!

🍂 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲

Times change, people come and go and communities grow, but there’s something special about the traditions and memories that get passed down through the generations.

Whether it’s an event that brings everyone together, a familiar face lending a hand or stories shared about years gone by, these are the things that give our local area its character.

At Cottown LOL 1029, we’re proud to play our part in keeping those traditions alive while making room for new ideas, new faces and new memories along the way.

After all, the best way to protect our heritage is to make sure it continues to mean something to the next generation.

𝐈𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰.

Residents’ groups from the Bogside, Lower Ormeau, Ardoyne, Springfield Road, Short Strand and elsewhere have warned that local parade agreements “could unravel” if the Orange Order keeps insisting on the Garvaghy Road, or seeks the same in other nationalist areas.

Linda O’Neill of the Garvaghy Road Residents Coalition said the Order and the Parades Commission have made this “bigger than the Garvaghy Road” and that “this is about all of us.”

Read that for what it is. A road that has already been blocked is being used to lean on every settled route. The message is clear: drop Garvaghy, or the deals that limit other parades may not hold.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸.

𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱.

The right to parade a traditional route is not a favour handed out by the loudest protest. If you value that tradition, and the faith and identity it carries, do not leave it to a few dozen men at Drumcree.

Show that a warning aimed at one road will not empty the rest.

It’s people turning up. Giving a hand. Supporting something local. Passing traditions on. Making new people feel welcome. And simply caring about what happens in the place around them.

That’s the sort of community we’re proud to be part of and something we’ll always do our bit to support.

🌿 Ballygrainey Community Climate Action Space 🌿

Great to see our new Climate Action Space starting to come together at Ballygrainey Community Hall.

What was previously a fairly unused outdoor area is being transformed into a welcoming community space, with new picnic seating, raised planters, flowers and planting, hanging baskets and our new Climate Action information board.

There’s still more to come as we continue developing the space, with further plans to encourage biodiversity, support local wildlife and make the area somewhere everyone using the hall can enjoy. 🌱🐝🦋

We wish to place on record our unequivocal support and solidarity with Portadown Orange District LOL 1 as the situation at Drumcree continues.

They followed the established process, secured a lawful determination and successfully defended that position through the courts. It is therefore deeply concerning that, despite this, they are being prevented from exercising that lawful right. The PSNI has now itself acknowledged that their permitted parade could not proceed because of an unlawful and unnotified protest.

Throughout this ongoing situation, the Brethren of Portadown District have shown remarkable discipline, dignity and restraint. After almost three decades of steadfastness, they should not be left to carry this burden alone. The wider Orange Institution must stand firmly alongside them and demand clear answers through every lawful avenue available.

Cottown LOL No. 1029 stands firmly with Portadown District. Stand firm, Brethren, you do not stand alone.

A community is more than a place on a map.

It’s the people who give their time, look out for one another, support local organisations and keep things going from one generation to the next. That’s something we want Cottown LOL 1029 to continue playing its part in.

There’s been plenty happening behind the scenes over the past year and plenty more still to come. We’re proud of our history, but we’re also looking forward, creating opportunities, bringing people together and making a positive contribution to our local community.
