🌿 What happens to outdoor kit when we throw it away? 🥾

Outdoor gear is built to be durable — but that doesn’t mean it belongs in landfill when it’s no longer wanted.

Materials such as polyester, nylon and rubber can take decades to break down, while microplastics can persist for hundreds of years

But there’s another option. ♻️

💚 Donate unwanted outdoor gear so it can be cleaned, checked and given to someone who needs it.
🔧 Repair where possible instead of replacing.
🥾 Buy second-hand and give quality kit another adventure.
🌍 Reuse and rewear to reduce waste and make the most of the resources already used to create our gear.

At Kitsquad, we believe good outdoor kit deserves more than a dump. ❤️

Every donation has the potential to keep useful equipment in use for longer and help break down the financial barriers that can stop people getting outdoors.

Not sure whether your request is something Kitsquad can help with? We’ve put together some examples of applications we’ve approved to give you an idea of the kinds of requests we may be able to support.

We have received a great donation from betaoutdoorsports. Made up of Ultimate Direction running vests, race belts and hydration bags, we are super excited to be able to pass these on to our Kitsquad beneficiaries.

In addition to hiking and expedition camping kit, we also provide ultra running kit to people living in poverty. Getting outdoors is a great way to boost physical and mental health. Being unable to access the correct kit should never be a reason why someone cannot enjoy the countryside.

We are always looking for companies to partner with, if you think we would be a good fit for you, give us a shout. The partnership could be based on donations in kind or financial support.

“There is great satisfaction knowing we help so many people.” ♥️

At Kitsquad, every donated item tells a story. What may no longer be needed in one household can become the tent, waterproof jacket or rucksack that helps someone else experience the joy of being outdoors.
Fran founded Kitsquad after experiencing first-hand how difficult life can become when finances are stretched. Today, thanks to the kindness of our supporters, we are able to help people access nature while also preventing good-quality outdoor kit from ending up in landfill prematurely.

Getting outdoors isn’t always free.
For many people, the biggest barrier to enjoying nature is the cost of the kit needed to do it safely and comfortably. Waterproofs, walking boots, rucksacks, sleeping bags, tents and other essential gear can quickly add up, making outdoor activities feel out of reach for low-income households.
At Kitsquad, we believe everyone deserves the chance to experience the physical and mental benefits of the outdoors. That’s why we take donated old, unused or surplus outdoor kit and redistribute it to people who need it most.
Your unused gear could become someone else’s first hike, first camp, first hike or first step into nature. 🌿

💪 79.3% have seen an improvement in physical health and activity levels
🧠 79.3% report improved mental wellbeing
🤝 54.5% have experienced stronger social connections with family, friends, and their wider community.

These numbers represent people gaining confidence, improving health, building friendships, and discovering the benefits of spending time outdoors!

Whether you’re taking on a sponsored hike, running a marathon, hosting a coffee morning, or organising a quiz night, every penny raised helps us continue our mission and make a bigger impact by breaking down those outdoor kit cost barriers for those on low income that can’t afford the correct kit to get them outdoors.

Every year, millions of pairs of hiking boots end up in landfill, even though many still have plenty of life left in them.

At Kitsquad, we believe great outdoor gear deserves a second adventure. By donating your old or unused hiking boots, you’re not only helping to reduce waste, you’re also helping someone who may not otherwise be able to afford the kit they need to explore the outdoors.
