What an amazing day Thursday was for us here in Waterloo Park. Firstly we woke up to the news that we have been awarded £8,987 to install solar power to our community garden cabin from the National Lotteries Community Fund, and then in the evening we attended the Community Safety Grant Awards at Broadoak and Smallshaw Community Centre, where we were also awarded £1,996 to repair our raised wooden planter beds & to underplant our orchard hedge base. We would like to thank both the National Lottery & Tameside Council for their continued support ❤️

It was a soggy Garden Group session this morning with relentless drizzle pouring down.

The volunteers still got on with tasks, such as sorting the shed, potting on plants, selling plants and the park litter pick.

Once again, the Teen Shelter was quite messy, but was soon sorted by Lee and Roy 💪

Afternoon. We have a number of reasonably priced trays of summer bedding, herbaceous perennial plants, shrubs & pear/quince trees left over from our plant sale. We are open for sales tomorrow from 10am to 12pm, Wednesday, 10.06.2026, and Friday morning from 9am until approx. 1.30pm. All of the money we make goes back into the garden to keep it going, so please come along & support your local community garden .Thank you 😀

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Friends of Waterloo Park - Ashton volunteers, who give their time and energy, week after week, year after year to make Waterloo Park a welcoming place for the local community, with events and activities for people of all ages.

We estimate that our volunteers collectively contribute on average, over fifty volunteer hours per week. Week in, week out, year in, year out - that is a tremendous commitment. As they are volunteers they don't receive any financial payment for their hard work.

We were thrilled to receive the King's Award for Voluntary Service which acknowledged this hard work. Our chair Cllr Sangita Patel - Ashton Waterloo has successfully bid for funding from Action Together for a volunteer celebration, which we are looking forward to.
