Before we left our old offices in Fetcham for our exciting move to Ashtead, we hosted some of our fabulous new volunteers for an induction.

New volunteers that join us are always invited to come to our Head Office to attend this really useful training. They receive an overview of how our charity works, gain an insight to the Deaf community and different types of eye conditions, as well as the best part – sighted guiding training.

It’s just one of the many ways we support our volunteers so they know they’re not alone. We like to be with them for that first home visit and we’re only a phone call away for those all-important questions.

Huge thank you to our Volunteer Driver, Mike, for 20 amazing years of service!

One of the many people Mike has supported is our Trustee, Penny, who is Deaf. Penny's first language is British Sign Language. Although Mike doesn’t know sign language, he found his own way to communicate with Penny by writing little messages to help conversations flow more easily. Penny was deeply touched by the effort and kindness he showed.

Watch the video to hear why Mike generously gives his time to our charity.

Important advice on how to stay well in the heat. Temperatures could reach 27 degrees on Saturday, so please take care ☀

An amber heat-health alert is in effect for Surrey.

Avoid extreme physical exertion - if you can’t avoid strenuous outdoor activity, keep it for cooler parts of the day such as early morning or evening. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol. It's important to stay dehydrated. More information: https://orlo.uk/wIrMF
