Have you heard about the Alnwick Lions Friendship Group?
It offers easy-going company in a safe and welcoming environment and a variety of activities such as crafts, games and guest speakers.
We'd love to have more people coming along to the Lindisfarne Centre on the first Wednesday of the month.
If mobility and transport are difficult for you just drop us a line and we will offer what help we can.
In turn, can you help us by spreading the word about this new Alnwick group?
Many thanks 😉

Will you vote for us?
My Local Awards shine a spotlight on the UK’s best-rated local businesses. But here’s the difference, the winners aren’t chosen by panels or pay-to-win schemes. They’re chosen by the people who matter most: YOU!
Here at Alnwick Lions we would really appreciate you giving a few seconds of your time to vote for us in the Northeast bookshop category...there are 43 entrants in the category but hopefully we are your favourite volunteer-run bookshop?

Following the recent presentation of a Mayor’s Civic Award to the Alnwick Lions Club, Mayor Councillor Geoff Watson was invited to meet the full membership at their latest meeting.

Most members had been unable to attend the official presentation evening due to a scheduling conflict with the inaugural meeting of their new Friendship Club. Councillor Watson used this follow-up visit as an opportunity to chat with the Lions and learn more about their extensive community initiatives.

He also told them about further plans at Thomas Percy Wood and was delighted to hear that the Lions Club had voted to again support the project with a grant.

Commenting on the visit, Councillor Watson said: "Alnwick is lucky to have such an active Lions Club and I really do appreciate all that they do. They all give their time very willingly and I was delighted to award them a Civic Award, giving them rightful recognition for their service to the town.”

An Alnwick baker has been presented with the highest honour that can be bestowed by any Lions Club, the Melvyn Jones Fellowship.

Colyn Pendleton of The Farm Bakery was described as a ‘local hero’ by the president of Alnwick Lions Club, Linden Dodds, who presented the award on behalf of Lions Club International.

Linden thanked Colyn for everything he did that helped the residents of Alnwick in a variety of ways such as providing the pies at the Club’s monthly charity quiz, supplying gifts for disadvantaged youngsters at a Christmas event and also being the club’s main sponsor.

Colyn displayed his usual modesty when accepting the award, saying ‘If I can help out, I will.”

Lions District Governor John Sellers congratulated Colyn and thanked him for his community spirit.
