Delighted to be given the use of the Beamish for our stall at this weekend’s event.

What books would you like to see there ?

As part of our Mixed Traction Gala this coming weekend there will be celebrations throughout the event for the 75th Birthday of our Class 11 - "Shirley" loco.

On the Saturday there will be free Shirley’s 75th birthday cake along with the opportunity to purchase special 75th birthday mugs and tee shirts.

In the museum will be a presentation depicting Shirley’s rolling restoration from her arrival at the Aln Valley up to the present day.

There will be the opportunity to hear a talk from one of our members of his reflections of operating a class 11 - diesel loco.

Our diesel traction team will be on-hand for a chat and to answer any questions about operating the diesel locos at the Aln Valley.

This will be a unique occasion and an opportunity to see "Shirley" what she does best , working !

We are delighted to announce our ‘Message in a Bottle’ campaign, a Lions International initiative that encourages people to leave key medical and personal information in a bottle for easy access by the emergency services.

People are invited to collect a bottle and information form from the Lions Book Shop in Alnwick town centre, which is open every day from 10am to 4pm.

Club President Tracy Hyslop explains: “You will receive a small plastic bottle, a data form, and two special green cross stickers. You write down your name, medical conditions, allergies, doctor's details, and emergency contacts and then place the completed form inside the bottle and put the bottle in your fridge door.”

“You then place one sticker on your fridge door and the second sticker on the inside of your front door then first responders see the sticker, know to look in your fridge and get the life-saving details they need right away.”

Local specialist dementia nurse Amy Holtom is delighted that Alnwick Lions are participating in the scheme and called in to the Lions Bookshop for the local launch of the initiative.

Amy said “I’m delighted to endorse this scheme. It’s a simple way to get key information to the people who need it in an emergency. People can also add items such as instructions for the care of a pet and a house key. The scheme is recognised and supported by ambulance, police and fire and rescue services as well as NHS trusts and I encourage people to get a bottle – you never know when it will be needed.”

If you would like to collect multiple bottles to distribute to a local group, send an email to [email protected]

Alnwick Lions Club president Tracy Hyslop, vice-president Rick Beaumont, Members Gordon Castle and Lucienne Glaiser and dementia nurse Amy Holtom are seen with the bottles in the Lions bookshop.
