2050 Climate Group Engaging, educating and empowering young people in Scotland to take action on climate change. https://linktr.ee/2050climategroup

We work with young people across the country, engaging, educating, and empowering them to lead the transformation of Scotland into a low carbon country. Our aim is to inspire young people to get involved not only in the 2050 Group, but in the design of future policy in Scotland, becoming catalysts for change to ensure a sustainable future for the country beyond the year 2050.

Don't you love when a plan comes together? We do!

A lot of planning happens behind the scenes for our projects and events. Many of our volunteers have jobs or studies but still find time to connect and collaborate to get things done. As a volunteer-led charity, we rely on this commitment to achieve action.

Over the last three years we've been working to diversify our reach and our impact. It's important that we include all our volunteers , trustees and staff in the development of our next strategy to continue growing and strengthening 2050 Climate Group. Stay tuned this year to see our grand plans for 2027-2030 πŸ‘€

We're so excited to attend this year's Edinburgh Climate Festival πŸ„

On Saturday, June 27th, we'll be at this year's climate festival at the Edinburgh Meadows from 12 - 7pm 🌻

The event is free for everyone to attend and is sure to be a wonderful day! Find out more about the day and how to get involved on our website: edinburghclimatefestival.com

This year's theme is mycelium, and we're working on some fun-gi things for our stall. πŸ„

Mycelium is an underground root-like network of entangled threads of fungi. It creates vast connections between plants and trees serving as a shared resource for nutrients, supporting growth as well as being a magnificent communication highway, sending signals and protecting one another. The 2026 theme embodies the ethos – supporting connection between ourselves, those around us and nature, expanding from local action to global solidarity. A reminder that fundamentally, we are all nature. Facing climate challenges alone can feel overwhelming. But when we recognise how deeply intertwined we are, we also recognise our shared strength. Through collective action we can exchange ideas, re-energise, and cultivate meaningful change. Whether you’re beginning your sustainability journey or deeply rooted in climate work, join us to build a hopeful and connected community - forming our own vibrant, intertwined network.

WHAT NOW? One month on from the Youth Climate Hustings

The election is over, but now the real work begins. We made our demands, now we need to keep the pressure on to see them met. The organisers of the hustings are currently figuring out the next steps for the coalition, and we want as many young people across Scotland as possible to be involved.

We want to grow the Scottish Youth Climate Coalition (SYCC) and strengthen the youth voice across Scotland.

There are two upcoming events in Glasgow and Edinburgh, hosted by Friends of the Earth Scotland in collaboration with other groups, to help shape the next steps. These are free to join and there will be a light dinner provided at the end of the meeting and time to chat and connect with the other groups there. All food will be vegan, with gluten-free options available. Find out more and register to attend on the Friends of the Earth Scotland website/social media.

Celebrating David Attenborough's 100th birthday πŸŽ‚

Yesterday members of 2050 Climate Group met up to celebrate in style with themed attire. Waaaaay back in 2016 we invited David Attenborough to attend our Youth Climate Summit. Unfortunately, he couldn't make it, but he did send a letter thanking us for the invite. So naturally, our Operations Coordinator, Alyson, photocopied it, framed it and brought it along for the celebrations.

People all over the world have been introduced to so many natural wonders through Attenborough's documentaries. If we want those wonderful things to survive, we must ensure we come together to protect our precious planet.

"No one will protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced" - David Attenborough

This Saturday, join us for an introduction to participatory budgeting

Explore what becomes possible when everyday people decide where money is spent and how participatory budgeting is used across Scotland. Join us on Saturday, 9th May, from 14:30/2:30pm back at McDonald Road Library in Edinburgh for an Introduction to Participatory Budgeting.

Part of Doing Democracy Differently, 2050 Climate Group’s new series of events exploring how Scotland could make political decisions in ways that work better for people and the planet. This is an introductory event, so you don't need to have an understanding of parliamentary budgeting to attend, you just need a willingness to learn. Please note this event is specifically for those aged 18 - 35 years old.

Expect a friendly introduction, real examples and good conversation - all focused on shaping decisions that work better for communities and the planet. Sign up for free on Eventbrite using the links in our bio πŸ”—

This project has been generously funded by the University of Edinburgh Community Micro-Grant, but is open to anyone 18-35; you do not need to be a student to participate. Through the Participation Fund, we can cover costs for attendees, such as travel. Please get in touch with us directly for more information.

The real prize is the friends we make along the way πŸ›€οΈ

We do a LOT of different things at 2050 Climate Group because we know that community means different things to different people. There is no "right" way to connect with each other and the climate movement. Only by supporting each other can we enact real change.

We're excited to welcome new volunteers to 2050 Climate Group soon and explore new ideas for ways we can empower more climate leaders. πŸ’«
