| The Bula Swasth Team continued into Week 2 yesterday at Kinoya Settlement with the distribution of seeds and garden tools to support healthier communities and sustainable living.

Led by Project Officer and Dietitian Shonika Kumar, the initiative highlights that nutrition does not only begin at the table — it starts in the garden. By empowering families to grow their own fresh produce, we are planting the seeds for better health, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future.

The workshop also included group presentations, community mapping, seasonal calendars, simulation exercises (SIMEX), initial damage assessment, emergency coordination mechanisms, and post-disaster waste management.

| Empowering communities through knowledge and healthier choices

Today, the women’s group of Lokia Village participated in a Value Adding Training under the BSI Climate-Smart Pacific Food Systems Programme. The training focused on practical food processing skills using locally available resources to promote healthier living and reduce dependence on store-bought products.

Participants learned how to make jam from dates and sultanas, produce peanut butter, and learn the processes of processing root crops into flour. The training also included making homemade tomato sauce and baking cakes using cassava flour as a healthier alternative.

These hands-on activities are helping families explore nutritious and sustainable food options while creating opportunities for improved household resilience and income generation. It is another important step towards healthier living and stronger food security within our communities.

| The Bula Swasth Project conducted a health check and food demonstration at Kinoya Settlement today, as part of the community’s first steps in the Bridge to Better Health journey.

Community members participated in basic health screenings while also learning practical ways to prepare healthy and nutritious meals using locally available foods. This marks the beginning of a journey towards healthier lifestyles, stronger families, and empowered communities.

We are grateful to everyone who participated and supported the program as we continue working together to promote health and wellbeing in our communities.

| Climate-Smart Pacific Food Systems Programme

Preparations are underway for next week’s BSI Value Adding Training in Narocivo and Lokia communities.

The team recently conducted field visits to confirm participant numbers, engage with local farmers, and assess the current crops being grown within the Lokia demo farms. These visits also provided an opportunity to discuss the upcoming training and strengthen collaboration with participating communities.

The team also met with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture at Lakena to coordinate support for the training. We are grateful for the continued partnership and collaboration in empowering rural communities through agricultural development and value-adding initiatives.

| Two communities graduated today from the Bridge to Better Health (B2BH) Program

Today we celebrated the graduation of participants from Lauwaki Village in the West and Nausori Village here in the central division who successfully completed the B2BH health and wellbeing program.

In Lauwaki Village, 4 participants completed the six-week program facilitated by Bula Swasth Project Officer Karalaini Rasolosolo. Their commitment throughout the sessions and willingness to make positive lifestyle changes has been encouraging to see.

The Nausori Village program was led by Bula Swasth Project Officer and Dietician Shonika Kumar together with Community Volunteer Josifini Tamani, who supported participants during the program journey.

We are proud of all the graduates and the effort they put into improving their health and wellbeing for themselves, their families, and their communities. Congratulations to everyone who completed the program 👏
