Manitoba Immigrant Employment Council is proud to support We’re Better Together - a new national campaign led by the Canadian Council for Refugees and partners to boost Canada’s support for immigrants and refugees.

In Canada, we speak many languages, come from many places, and across our differences, we look out for each other.

While we see politicians abroad spread lies to turn neighbour against neighbour, here in Canada we reject those who use divide and conquer tactics to distract us while chipping away at the healthcare and services we all need and letting housing prices spiral.

We are proud to be a country that welcomes newcomers, and we expect our leaders to carry on that legacy and make this a place where all families can thrive. Because in Canada, we know we’re better off together.

Stand with us. Show your support for immigrants and refugees.

“I have never seen anyone work harder than a refugee — they know what it’s like to have nothing.”
— Chrysanthou
Andrea Chrysanthou came to Canada as a child refugee from Cyprus after fleeing conflict with her family. Her earliest memories moved quickly from hiding from bombs to navigating a Canadian classroom with no English.
Watching her parents rebuild their lives shaped a mindset grounded in hard work, responsibility, and empathy.
Today, Andrea is the founder of Public Relations and a multiple award-winning communicator advising leading organizations across Canada.
Andrea’s advice to employers: “Have patience and you will reap the rewards. Refugees work hard, bring new perspectives, and add something truly exciting to any company.”
Employers: Refugee talent strengthens teams and culture.

“As refugees, you don’t always have a defined path — so you learn to create one.”
— Ladak
Nizar Ladak came to Canada as a refugee from Uganda in 1973 after his family was expelled under the Idi Amin regime. Arriving with little, his parents went door to door seeking work to build a future for their three children.
That experience shaped Nizar’s values and leadership. Today, he is an accomplished author, board chair, and former CEO of the Research Alliance of Canada, with a career focused on building diverse, high-performing teams and driving innovation across Canada’s health and technology systems.
His advice to employers:
“Hire for attitude and teach the rest. Refugees bring resilience, teamwork, efficiency, and fresh perspective — and the return on investment is hundredfold.”
Employers: Refugee talent is already driving innovation across Canada.
