On June 11, Katie Cares gratefully received a grant cheque from the Winkler Community Foundation. Grants like these play a vital role in the life of a charity, helping to support important upgrades and improvements that enhance the experience for guests and strengthen day-to-day operations.

This year, the Katie Cares board identified a meaningful project: improving the dining room tables at Katie’s Cottage. After more than 10 years of faithful use, the tables remain in good structural condition, and after some research, the decision was made to refinish rather than replace them. This choice reflects both stewardship and sustainability—reusing, recycling, and preserving quality items wherever possible.

The Winkler Community Foundation generously granted $3,500 to support this refurbishment project. This contribution made it possible to restore the dining room tables and extend their life for many more years of service. The refreshed space will continue to provide comfort and a welcoming, home-like atmosphere for guests and families staying at Katie’s Cottage.
Katie Cares is deeply appreciative of the Winkler Community Foundation’s ongoing support and commitment to strengthening local organizations in our community.

Katie Cares is honored to share, for the 5th year, our scholarship recipient of the Kaitlyn Marie Reimer Scholarship, presented to a graduating student from Garden Valley Collegiate.

This year’s recipient is Bryson Penner, who will continue his post-secondary education at University of Manitoba in the field of education.

Bryson is a wonderful young man who is caring, kind, and compassionate. His character and the way he wrote his essay truly captured the hearts of the Reimer family. We are grateful for the opportunity to recognize a student who reflects the values this scholarship represents.

Katie Cares has also been fortunate to receive several grants this spring. These gifts have been instrumental in strengthening our programs and supporting the ongoing work we do throughout the province. It is a truly meaningful feeling to be able to give back to the community in return, and to present this scholarship to a deserving recipient as part of that ongoing cycle of support.

Bryson, we wish you much success as you begin this exciting new chapter in life. May your journey in education be filled with growth, learning, and many opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Thank You to Hochfeld School Council and Students
On June 8th, the Hochfeld School Council visited Katie’s Cottage for a tour and a special visit. They presented Katie Cares with a generous donation of $126.15, which will be used to purchase new beanie babies for our program.

This program is incredibly meaningful because it provides a real and tangible way for children to see the impact of the money, they have earned and chosen to donate. Their generosity helps bring comfort and joy to children and families during challenging times.

The students enjoyed a tour of the cottage, along with cookies and refreshments. It was wonderful to welcome them and share more about the work of Katie Cares and Katie’s Cottage.

Thank you to the students, teachers, and parents of Hochfeld School for supporting Katie Cares and helping provide beanie babies to children in our communities. We truly appreciate your kindness, effort, and commitment to making a difference.

Katie Cares was honored to receive a generous donation of $400.00 from the WC Miller Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program. Randy Reimer accepted the donation on behalf of Katie Cares.

These funds will support the Katie Cares Beanie Baby program, helping us continue to provide comfort and a special gift to children and families in our community. These little bears bring smiles, encouragement, and a reminder that someone cares during challenging times.

Katie Cares was honoured to receive a grant of $250 from the Northlands Parkway Collegiate Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program.

These funds will be used to purchase new pillowcases for Katie’s Cottage. Recently, the cottage upgraded its pillows to larger sizes that better fit our beds and provide greater comfort, helping our guests enjoy a better night’s sleep during what is often a difficult and stressful time.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the students of Northlands Parkway Collegiate YIP, who worked extremely hard throughout the year to raise funds and support four deserving organizations. Your dedication, generosity, and commitment to making a difference in your community are truly inspiring.
Thank you as well to the teachers, mentors, and everyone who supported YIP and their fundraising efforts. Your support helps Katie’s Cottage continue providing a welcoming, comfortable home away from home for families whose loved ones are receiving medical care.

June 2 marked a very special day for the as they celebrated the opening of their second location and distributed an incredible $128,000 to 26 community organizations.

It was inspiring to be part of the grant presentation and to witness firsthand how the funds raised through the thrift store continue to strengthen our communities and support important local initiatives. The impact of this generosity will be felt by many organizations and the people they serve.

Katie Cares was honoured to receive a grant of $1,500. These funds will be used to purchase new blankets for Katie’s Cottage. After 10 years of serving guests from across Manitoba and beyond, it is important that we continue to maintain the high standards of comfort, quality, and care that our guests have come to expect.

Katie’s Cottage is proud to partner with , a Manitoba-based provider offering internet and TV services to communities across the province.

This partnership is an exciting step forward for our charity, allowing us to provide guests with an enhanced television experience during their stay. The new system has been installed and is operational, and we are currently making a few adjustments to ensure everything is working to its fullest potential.

For many of our guests, Katie’s Cottage is a home away from home during difficult times while loved ones receive medical care. Having access to reliable, high-quality TV service helps create a welcoming and comfortable environment where guests can relax and unwind.

We extend our sincere thanks to Valley Fiber for serving as our TV provider and for the strong partnership we are building together. We look forward to the many benefits this collaboration will bring to both organizations and, most importantly, to the guests we serve.

Katie’s Cottage has been under renovations over the past few weeks, including a significant transformation of the laundry room. After 10 years of use, the original shelves were removed as they needed repair or replacement.

Katie Cares was grateful to receive a $4,000 grant from Pembina Valley United Way. The funding was used to purchase new floor-to-ceiling cabinets, providing additional shelving, improved organization, and enclosed storage for a cleaner and more welcoming appearance.

This new look has made a tremendous improvement to the space and will greatly benefit the staff and daily operations at Katie’s Cottage. Thank you to Pembina Valley United Way for supporting this important project.

Happy Birthday Cyrene! 🥳

Recently, Cyrene celebrated her 11th birthday with a fun pool party at the Days Inn surrounded by her friends. With a big smile, Cyrene shared how much fun everyone had celebrating together.

In place of gifts, her guests once again brought Beanie Babies, which Cyrene generously donated to Katie Cares. This marks the 4th year that Cyrene has chosen to give back to the charity in such a thoughtful and caring way.

Thank you to all of Cyrene’s guests for being part of this special gift and helping bring comfort and joy to children.
