Our vocational program uses a unique approach by focusing on the strengths of an individual in order to facilitate success in the workplace. The program concentrates on goal setting with its participants in achieving their objectives. Through the use of this approach, the movement of the participants from their current state to one further along the continuum to meaningful employment is made as sm
ooth and stress free as possible. This transition is very aptly described by the word Segue and it is for this reason that it was chosen. Sign up for our quarterly newsletter by going to: http://eepurl.com/h-twvL

Unfortunately the mild weather has led to the snowmobile trails being completely unsuitable for riding.
We want to express our gratitude to the Border Valley Snow Goers for choosing us as their fundraising partner for the event.
We'd also like to thank those of you who were planning to attend on Saturday. This fundraiser means a lot to Segue and is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

Snowmobiling was never meant to be done alone.
Bringing a buddy makes for better trails, better stories, and overall a better day.
The Poker Derby is about getting outside, enjoying the trails, and sharing the experience in good company. Whether it’s your go‑to riding partner or a friend who needs an excuse to get out, this is your sign to invite them along for the cause!
Because let’s be honest, sledding is Better With a Buddy.

Segue Career Options was founded in 2005, but that wasn’t really the beginning. It all started with Eden’s desire to help people living with a mental illness to find meaningful employment. Eden’s first employment initiative was to develop a woodworking shop in the basement of Eden Mental Health Centre, where patients could go to work on projects. In 1982 it moved into an off-site workshop called Trainex Industries. In the early days, Trainex participants would spend part of the day in a classroom setting, and the rest of their day either in the woodworking shop or the domestic department.
A large woodworking shop was constructed and opened in 1985. In the shop they produced wooden products, such as children’s toys, clocks, cabinets, bookcases, tables, chairs, and picnic tables. The domestic department of the program focused on laundry, ironing, mending, and home cleaning.
In 1987, the Life Skills program began, which allowed Trainex to work with individuals from the community who were not connected with Eden. The workshop was expanded in 1991 to make more space for the increased demand for their products. Later on, Trainex services were extended to people coming through the Criminal Justice System, as well as individuals with physical disabilities.
Over the years, vocational assessments also became an integral part of the programming at Trainex. These assessments assisted individuals in determining their strengths and interests in order to support their job search.
Financial support of Trainex had its ups and downs throughout the 23 years it was open, and due to lack of funds, Trainex closed in 2005. The Trainex board decided to carry on their assessment and training services without the woodshop and changed their name to Segue Career Options. In 2005, Segue moved into the ALG building, which is connected to the Eden Health Care Services office.
In the early Segue days, partnerships were established with Co-op and the Main Street Market Project. Both mentored many Segue participants. In 2008, another partnership was established with SteelTech in Winkler. At this time, mobile assessments were being offered in Portage la Prairie and Steinbach. Next came the Youth Employment Program, which was designed for 16-30 year olds and it provided classroom training and paid work experience. Segue has been offering similar programs ever since, and currently offers Vocational Assessments, Employment Services, Follow-Up Services, STEP program, JUMP program, and Opportunities Project for Employment and Skills Development.
