As part of our endorsement process for the 2026 School Board election, we're inviting candidates to sit down with a panel of teachers for an approximately 30 minute interview. The interview is an opportunity for us to get to know you, learn about your priorities, and discuss the issues that matter the most to educators in Greater Victoria. Questions will include professional and volunteer experience, the role of school trustees as it relates to advocacy, governance, and operations, as well as policy questions related to workplace health and safety, student success and classroom supports, equity and inclusion, extracurriculars, and more.

Interviews can be scheduled on September 3rd, 8th, 9th, and 10th. Please email mailto:[email protected] to set up an interview time with the Political Action Committee. Following ratification by the GVTA Executive and general membership, prospective candidates who apply for endorsement will be informed of the outcome on the evening of September 17th.

We also strongly encourage candidates to seek out the endorsement of the Victoria Labour Council, the application deadline for which is August 11th. More info can be found here: https://victorialabour.ca/2026-municipal-endorsements/

The GVTA was proud to have our members out on the line in support of the BC Nurses' Union!

Nurses deserve a contract that recognizes the vital service they provide and makes their working conditions manageable. So many of our issues are the same. Reasonable ratios, workplaces free from violence, a manageable workload to prevent burnout. These are fair demands and we support your fight to achieve them!

We are inspired by the resolve of rank and file nurses, and your refusal to accept less than what you deserve. Solidarity!

Check out this Op-Ed published in The Times Colonist by our First VP, Cindy Romphf. A thoughtful reflection on media literacy and the public narrative, related to the controversy surrounding the firing of The Greater Victoria Board of Trustees.

The trustees’ return invites reflection on how public narratives take hold.

It has been one week since the shocking revelations that led to the total capitulation of the Province and reinstatement of the Board of Trustees. The GVTA is waiting for a response to President Carolyn Howe's May 26 letter to the Premier, calling for an investigation into wrongdoing and removal of those involved.
