At their 20-week scan, Teri and Colin learned that their daughter Britton had a congenital heart defect and would need surgery right after birth. In preparation for the complex medical care required, the family relocated from Sicamous to Edmonton.
Britton was born in May 2015, and her fight began immediately. At just two weeks old, she underwent her first heart surgery, but it became clear that her heart was in worse shape than expected and she was listed for a transplant. On September 2, 2015, the call came and not a moment too soon. The timing of her transplant could not have been more critical.
The family was finally able to return to Sicamous in November 2015. Throughout those seven months away from home, the David Foster Foundation helped carry the financial weight so Teri and Colin could focus entirely on their little girl.
Today, Britton is a joyful eleven-year-old whose heart continues to function wonderfully. As Teri reflects, "She has taught us how precious life is and how to appreciate the smallest things.” 💜
