There is a quiet strength in the fathers who show up every single day.

Through this piece, the David Foster Foundation wants to celebrate the men whose love is often expressed not through words, but through action. Their stories are not always told, yet their impact can be found in every milestone reached, and every moment of hope sustained through uncertainty.

For fathers navigating medical challenges alongside their children, caregiving can mean becoming an advocate, a provider, and a source of unwavering strength all at once. It is a role that demands resilience, patience, and extraordinary devotion, often without recognition.

Thank you for all the ways you show up, especially the ones the world may never see. đź’ś

We are so proud to announce this year’s David Foster Foundation scholarship recipient - Tanika. 💜

Tanika has faced more in her young life than most of us could ever imagine. Now awaiting her third double lung transplant, she continues to move forward with grace, determination and a beautiful vision for her future.

This year, Tanika will pursue a full-time Pet Grooming program at Conestoga College, studying animal behaviour, pet care, and CPR with the dream of one day opening her own business.

The David Foster Foundation has had the honour of walking alongside Tanika and her family since 2016. This scholarship is a small reflection of the immense pride we have in Tanika and the future she is building.

Kolt's Story đź’ś

When Robin and Bryan received the news at 20 weeks that their baby had multiple severe heart defects and may not survive, they made a decision that defined everything that followed: they would fight for their boy, one day at a time.

Kolt arrived on March 15, 2022, making his presence known from the very first moment. His first eleven weeks of life were filled with surgeries, setbacks, and moments of devastating uncertainty. On June 1, 2022, the call finally came. At just eleven-week old, Kolt received a heart transplant, and with it, a future.

The David Foster Foundation was proud to support the DuPont family throughout this journey, helping ease the financial burden so they could focus entirely on Kolt and their family.

Today, Kolt is still on lots of medications but slowly eliminating a few of them. He loves playing with his siblings and bringing joy to everyone around him.

No family should ever have to choose between being present for their child and keeping their life afloat.

The David Foster Foundation is honoured to walk alongside families during one of the most difficult chapters of their lives, providing the support they need so they can focus entirely on what matters most - their child.

For 40 years, families have come to us in their hardest moments, leaving behind everything familiar, holding on to hope, and trusting that they wouldn’t have to do it alone. 💜

Because of the generosity of donors and supporters like you, we’ve been able to be there for every single one of them. This August, we gather not just to mark a milestone, but to honour the lives touched, the families held, and the community that made it all possible.

Join us August 7 & 8 for a weekend of celebration, reflection and community.

The numbers tell on story. The families behind them tell another.

Because of donors like you, no family had to face the transplant journey alone. Thank you for showing up for them.

At their 20-week scan, Teri and Colin learned that their daughter Britton had a congenital heart defect and would need surgery right after birth. In preparation for the complex medical care required, the family relocated from Sicamous to Edmonton.

Britton was born in May 2015, and her fight began immediately. At just two weeks old, she underwent her first heart surgery, but it became clear that her heart was in worse shape than expected and she was listed for a transplant. On September 2, 2015, the call came and not a moment too soon. The timing of her transplant could not have been more critical.

The family was finally able to return to Sicamous in November 2015. Throughout those seven months away from home, the David Foster Foundation helped carry the financial weight so Teri and Colin could focus entirely on their little girl.

Today, Britton is a joyful eleven-year-old whose heart continues to function wonderfully. As Teri reflects, "She has taught us how precious life is and how to appreciate the smallest things.” 💜
