Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Fire Chief Dave Ward.

We were fortunate to pull Chief Ward from retirement and to benefit from his leadership from 2010 to 2014.

Chief Ward will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and effective leadership style.

Our thoughts are with all those who knew him but especially the Saanich Fire Fighters' Association.

Please join us on Saturday, May 30, 2026, as we celebrate the life and legacy of Retired Chief Dave Ward

Chief Ward began his career with the Saanich Fire Department in February 1975 and proudly served the community for 35 years, retiring as Fire Chief in April 2010. Throughout his career, he demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to both the fire service and his fellow members

From 1983 to 1999, Chief Ward served on the Local 967 Union Executive, advocating for members and helping advance the profession. Following his retirement from Saanich, he continued his service as Fire Chief with the Esquimalt Fire Department for nearly four more years before retiring from the fire service in February 2014

We are grateful for Chief Ward’s lasting contributions to our community, the fire service, and the safety and wellbeing of our members

Thank you to all our amazing fire fighter Moms and all our fire fighter's Moms!

We are all better because of you!

Mother's Day is a chance to recognize the moms who never clock out: the ones working alongside us in the fire service, and the ones who were our first example of what it means to show up for others. Thank you for everything you carry. Happy Mother's Day.
