Always moving and a tragic reminder,

🙏 🔥 Every two years, the honors members who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

From the Opening Ceremony to the closing gavel, the Memorial Wall keeps their service and sacrifice at the heart of the Convention and the IAFF’s commitment to remember our fallen.

This year’s remembrance is especially meaningful as the IAFF marks the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, that forever changed the fire service, highlighting the courage, service, and sacrifice of those who answered that call.

We will never forget.

We have recently returned from a great weekend in Arlington where we worked hard to make the best decisions to strengthen our union and ensure we have the tools to keep our members safe, to keep the public safe, and to fight back against corporate greed that puts profits ahead of people.

We are proud of our International Association of Fire Fighters for debating, understanding, and ultimately deciding on tough issues that will keep our focus strong.

We are All In.

2026 IAFF Biennial Convention

BCPFFA is proud to have 55 members representing 21 Locals from across British Columbia in attendance at the 2026 IAFF Biennial Convention.

This convention is more than a gathering. It's where our members have a direct voice in shaping the policies, protections, and priorities of our union at the international level.

We're especially proud to see BCPFFA members serving on convention committees this year:

🔹 Katrina Davison (Local 18) — Constitution & By-Laws
🔹 Michael Gunn (Local 967) — Credentials
🔹 Jeremy Brodtrick (Local 913) — Health & Safety
🔹 Todd Schierling (BCPFFA) — Human Relations
🔹 Jordan Sparrow (Local 4550) — Legislative & Political

From BC to the international stage, this is what representation looks like. Thank you to everyone putting in the work for our members.

Island Ignite has brought the 2026 cohort of amazing female high-school students from all reaches of Vancouver Island to Township of Esquimalt and we couldn't be more excited!

What an amazing start to their camp which has them living and breathing fire culture and skills over the next three days.

Led by incredible female fire fighters and supported by Unions, Charitables and Fire Departments, this program is a difference maker.

Thank you Island Ignite for allowing us to spend the day with you.

Wow!Thank you Esquimalt! Your generosity makes a difference.

Wow!

Thank you Esquimalt! Your generosity makes a difference.

A huge thank you to CFB Esquimalt Firefighters and Esquimalt Fire Fighters IAFF 4264 for their incredible joint event in May that raised an astounding $7,654.

This was their largest fundraiser to date, nearly doubling their fundraising goal for 2025! This gift officially brought their lifetime giving to over $462,000. Their ongoing efforts continue to fuel critical research, programs, and advocacy for Canadians living with neuromuscular disorders.

We’re grateful to every Fire Fighter, volunteer, and community member who showed up, gave their time, and helped make this impact possible. And thank you to everyone who stopped by to donate and show their support.

We snagged another keeper!

Probation is such an important time to ensure good fit, an ability to learn and adapt, and to cram as much learning as possible. It is a tough year of training, assessments, and being exposed to all facets of this work.

Congratulations Eli, what a great first year!

Congratulations to Firefighter Eli Cronquist on his promotion to 3rd Class Firefighter after successfully completing his one-year probationary period with Esquimalt Fire Rescue Services.

At EFRS, probationary firefighters complete a comprehensive one-year development program that includes monthly assessments, practical skills evaluations, and ongoing performance reviews. This process ensures they have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, professionalism, and commitment required to serve our community at the highest standard.

Congratulations, Eli, on this important career milestone. We look forward to watching your career continue to grow. Well done!

Island Ignite 2026 is proud to welcome Brooklyn Auger, sponsored by the Esquimalt Firefighters Charitable Association.

When asked why she wanted to participate in Island Ignite, Brooklyn shared:

"I have heard really amazing things about Island Ignite. I have always wanted to be in the field of first responders when I’m older, so I hope to figure out if it’s something I am passionate about after camp."

We are excited to have Brooklyn joining us this summer. Her interest in serving as a first responder and her eagerness to explore a future in emergency services are exactly what Island Ignite is designed to inspire. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and teamwork, she will have the opportunity to discover new skills, build confidence, and learn more about careers in the fire service.

A heartfelt thank you to the Esquimalt Firefighters Charitable Association for sponsoring Brooklyn and helping empower the next generation of young women interested in fire and emergency services.

Please join us in welcoming Brooklyn to Island Ignite 2026!
