Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association, IAFF Local 1271 proudly recognizes our own member — BCPFFA President and Surrey Fire Captain Todd Schierling — as he begins his campaign as MLA Candidate for North Delta.

A 30-year veteran of the Surrey Fire Department, Todd has spent over two decades championing occupational cancer protections, firefighter health and mental-health supports, and workplace safety across British Columbia.

He also created the Surrey Firefighters Goodwill Senior High School Basketball Tournament — 25 years strong — awarding over $125,000 to community-minded student athletes, some of whom went on to become Surrey Fire Fighters themselves.

His candidacy has earned endorsements from the BCPFFA Executive Board, Surrey Fire Fighters Local 1271, Delta Fire Fighters Local 1763, the BC Federation of Labour, the BCGEU, and more to come.

A lifetime Delta resident, coach, volunteer, and mentor, Todd is ready to be a strong, informed voice for North Delta in Victoria.

We thank him for his years of advocacy and wish him well in this next step of public service.

Without reservation and with full support, Esquimalt Fire Fighters are behind our Provincial President and his campaign for MLA in Delta North.

Todd has been a fierce advocate for fire fighter issues, leading our Provincial association to make progress related to our issues.

He works harder than anyone we know on our issues and his focus, work ethic, and care for others will serve the constituents of Delta-North and all of British Columbia well.

We are encouraged by his decision to take on this new challenge. Hopefully he can join other Brothers and Sisters from labour (like Darlene Rotchford ) and help make the lives of all workers better.

EFRS recognizes the strength and resiliency of all Indigenous People. It’s important to pause and remember all those affected by Residential Schools, past and present. We reflect on the children who did not come home, and the impacts on their communities. We proudly stand with all individuals and communities affected, as we continue to work towards reconciliation. Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day

Today, we pause to remember and honour the police and peace officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to Canadians.

Today we attended Mayor Barb Desjardins last 'Mayor's Open House' at the Township of Esquimalt.

We had the opportunity to express our gratitude for her kindness, friendship and leadership throughout her nearly two decades on Council.

“I shared a private moment with Mayor Desjardins to express how much I have appreciated her leadership over the years. I’ve had the opportunity to watch this Council work through some incredibly challenging issues, and I’ve always appreciated the thoughtfulness and responsibility they brought to those discussions. They asked difficult and meaningful questions, listened to different perspectives and worked hard to understand the issues before making decisions.

Mayor Desjardins played an important role in leading those discussions through some very challenging times. Local government decisions aren’t always easy, and there will naturally be times when people disagree with the outcome. I think it’s important, though, to see the process that gets you there. If you take the time to watch the deliberations, hear the questions being asked and understand the competing interests Council was trying to balance, you get a much better appreciation for just how difficult some of these decisions can be.

I’m grateful for Mayor Desjardins’ years of service to Esquimalt, and especially for the relationship she has built with our firefighters and our community. She has given a tremendous amount of her time to this community, and I wanted to make sure she knew how much that has been appreciated.”
