The Olive Branch for Children

The Olive Branch for Children The Olive Branch for Children was founded in 2005. Our main objective is to help remote communities in rural Tanzania.

Our grassroots programs focus on HIV/AIDS prevention and care, early childhood education, food security and vulnerable children and women. The Olive Branch for Children uses donor dollars to invest directly in programming and has little to no administrative costs.

From Olive Branch Student to University Guest Lecturer 🌿📘

We are incredibly proud to share that Rahim Athuman, one of our long-term Olive Branch students and a rising leader in Mathematics and Statistics, has been invited to serve as a Guest Lecturer at Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) on May 28th, 2026.

Rahim’s journey has been built through years of hard work, perseverance, and commitment to education. From excelling in Mathematics throughout his studies to becoming a researcher in Mathematical Modeling and Statistical Analysis, he continues to demonstrate what is possible when young people are given opportunities to grow and flourish.

MUST invited Rahim to inspire their Mathematics students through a lecture sharing both his academic experience and his work in Mathematics and Statistics. To see one of our students now standing in front of university students as a lecturer is an incredible milestone not only for Rahim, but for our wider Olive Branch community.

Rahim is also a dedicated member of our Run to Rise family running club, balancing academics, leadership, athletics, and mentorship. His story is a reminder that education is not only about qualifications, but about building confidence, character, discipline, and the ability to give back to others.

A special thank you to LiUNA! Local 183 for sponsoring Rahim’s undergraduate education and investing in the futures of young leaders through education. Partnerships like this create opportunities that ripple far beyond the classroom.

At The Olive Branch for Children, we believe in long-term investment in young people and in nurturing future leaders who will uplift their communities and inspire the next generation.

Congratulations Rahim. Your Olive Branch family is proud of you. 🌿📊✨

🏃🏾‍♂️ Run to Rise 🏃🏾‍♀️

At The Olive Branch for Children, we believe growth does not only happen in classrooms.

It happens on dusty roads before sunrise. It happens in the middle of difficult moments when you want to stop, but keep going. It happens through discipline, consistency, community and learning who you are when things get hard.

Run to Rise is more than a running club. It is part of building young people from the ground up. Helping students develop habits, resilience and confidence that will carry into every part of their lives.

Today, Rahim completed the Mbeya Half Marathon after previously taking on the Kilimanjaro Full Marathon — one of the hardest challenges he has ever faced.

From Rahim:

“Running has meant more than just sport to me. It’s taught me discipline, patience and resilience, especially during marathons when you doubt yourself in the middle of the race. But it’s also taught me connection and consistency, and that sometimes you can lose the love for something for a while, but if you keep showing up, you find it again.”

What started as a personal challenge became something shared with family, friends and the wider Run to Rise community. Training together. Talking about races. Encouraging one another through difficult moments. Building relationships and memories along the way.

This year’s Mbeya Half Marathon was also shared with Vincent, one of our volunteers from Germany, highlighting the friendships and connections that can grow across continents through shared experiences, challenge and community. 🌍

The Kilimanjaro Marathon pushed Rahim to parts of himself he had never seen before. And today’s Mbeya Half Marathon reminded him why he started.

Sometimes growth looks like crossing a finish line.Sometimes it simply looks like refusing to quit.

We are incredibly proud of Rahim and all of our Run to Rise students continuing to challenge themselves, rise together and discover what they are capable of. 🌿

Rooted in community. Growing through mentorship. 🌱📚

Our Montessori Guides in our Montessori Outreach Kindergarten Program are not simply hired from the outside. They are chosen by their own communities — individuals who have already demonstrated commitment, care for children, reliability, and a desire to uplift those around them.

Community members selected for the program must be able to read and write, have strong roots within the village, and show a genuine dedication to the children and families they serve.

From there begins a longterm journey of Montessori Guide development.

At The Olive Branch for Children, this means:
• Ongoing Montessori trainings
• Mentorship from experienced Guides already in the program
• Support from our Education Outreach Manager
• Regular on-site visits and feedback sessions
• Training in how to make Montessori materials locally
• Provision of classroom materials and resources
• Support from visiting international volunteers and educators

We believe sustainable education grows strongest when communities themselves are empowered to lead it. ❤️

The result is classrooms filled not only with learning — but with connection, consistency, and care.

Tonight is the night. ✨

Our Building Brighter Futures Gala is finally here, and we are filled with gratitude as we walk into this evening surrounded by incredible partners and an army of dedicated volunteers.

A special thank you to LiUNA! Local 183, our Platinum Gala Sponsor, whose unwavering commitment to education and opportunity continues to open doors for students in Tanzania — students they may never meet, but whose futures they help shape every single day.

And to the amazing volunteers who have been working behind the scenes, setting up the hall, paying attention to every detail, and making sure tonight runs smoothly — this event simply would not be possible without you. Your time, your energy, and your belief in this work matter more than you know.

Tonight is about community.
Tonight is about partnership.
Tonight is about building brighter futures — together.

Building Futures That Stretch Beyond the Horizon

This Saturday, as we gather for our Gala, we are reminded exactly who we are building for — these young students whose dreams are still unfolding.

Students who are learning, growing, and imagining what their futures might hold. Futures as teachers, healthcare workers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. Futures that begin with opportunity.

Our Platinum Gala Sponsor, LiUNA! Local 183, plays a critical role in making those futures possible.

Their support ensures that our biggest fundraising event of the year can happen — and that the funds raised continue to sustain the education, healthcare, and community programs that walk alongside children from early childhood all the way through secondary school, college, and university.

They are investing in potential.
They are investing in stability.
They are investing in the long road of building brighter futures — one student at a time.

To LiUNA! Local 183, thank you for believing in grassroots work, for standing with our students, and for recognizing that when we invest in children today, we strengthen communities for generations to come.

The future is already here.
And because of partners like you, it is full of possibility. 🌱

Books in Motion. Futures in Reach. 📚

Support from the Spirit of Generosity allows our KICKIT Mobile Library to reach 9,000 students each week—bringing books, stories, and the joy of reading directly into schools and communities where access to books can be limited.

We extend our sincere thanks to Mayor Steven Del Duca, the City of Vaughan, and Regional Councillors Gino Rosati and Mario Ferri for their continued support of our work. Partnerships like these help ensure that children have the opportunity to read, imagine, and learn—no matter where they live.

Every book placed in a child’s hands is a small moment that builds something much bigger. 🌍✨

Feet First: Protecting Mobility, Preserving Dignity 👣

Our Feet First Program focuses on lower limb health—an often overlooked but critically important part of community healthcare, especially in rural settings where people walk long distances every day for school, work, water, and medical care.

When foot and lower limb injuries or infections go untreated, they can quickly become severe, leading to chronic pain, disability, or even loss of mobility. Protecting foot health means protecting independence, livelihoods, and quality of life.

Our healthcare team has been trained by visiting podiatrists from Ireland, building specialized skills in assessment, wound care, infection prevention, and long-term management of lower limb conditions. This knowledge stays in the community—strengthening local capacity and ensuring care is available close to home.

Pictured here is our Olive Branch graduate and current healthcare intern, Amili, who recently completed his diploma as a Clinical Officer, carefully tending to a patient through our Feet First Program.

Our healthcare graduates and interns receive intensive wound care training from our Healthcare Manager, Frank, alongside visiting podiatrists and medical professionals. This hands-on mentorship ensures that high-quality care is delivered consistently, safely, and with compassion.

Because healthy feet mean people can keep moving—
to school, to work, to their families, and toward their futures.

📚 Reading Opens Worlds — One Page at a Time 📚

At Merere Primary School, moments like this remind us why reading matters.
Two students, side by side on the grass, completely absorbed in a story — practicing literacy, building imagination, and strengthening the skills that shape their futures.

Through our KICKIT Mobile Library, we bring books directly to schools across our catchment communities, creating regular opportunities for children to read, explore, and grow. For many students, these sessions provide access to books they would not otherwise have — and the chance to discover the joy of reading.

The value of reading is profound:

* Children who read regularly perform better across all subjects — not just language.
* Strong literacy skills are directly linked to higher school completion rates.
* Reading for just 20 minutes a day exposes a child to over 1 million words per year, dramatically improving vocabulary and comprehension.
* Most importantly, reading builds confidence — giving children the tools to participate fully in school and in life.

At The Olive Branch for Children, literacy is not an extra — it is foundational.
Because when children learn to read, they gain the power to learn anything. 🌍
