The Olive Branch for Children

The Olive Branch for Children The Olive Branch for Children was founded in 2005. Our main objective is to help remote communities in rural Tanzania.

Our grassroots programs focus on HIV/AIDS prevention and care, early childhood education, food security and vulnerable children and women. The Olive Branch for Children uses donor dollars to invest directly in programming and has little to no administrative costs.

It was so great to pop into Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Morogoro and spend time with our Olive Branch students, Shaila, who is studying Agricultural Engineering, and Tuma, who is studying Veterinary Science. We were also delighted to meet Cecilia, a fellow student in agricultural sciences.

SUA is a public university known for its programmes in agriculture, veterinary science, forestry, animal science, food science, environmental science and natural resources. Set against the beautiful Uluguru Mountains, the campus brings learning to life through its expansive fields, thriving crops and even horses.

It was wonderful to see the environment in which Shaila and Tuma are learning, growing and preparing for their futures. We are incredibly proud of them and so happy that they have this opportunity to build knowledge and practical skills that can one day strengthen their communities.

A very special thank you to LiUNA! Local 183 for sponsoring our college and university students and helping make these life-changing educational opportunities possible. What a beautiful place to learn! πŸŒ±πŸ΄πŸŽ“πŸ’š

Water is life. πŸ’§

Thanks to the generous support of Bees, Trees and Water, The Olive Branch for Children has completed a new well at Uyole Primary School, bringing a reliable source of water to:

643 girls
601 boys
24 teachers
4 support staff

In total, the well directly serves 1,244 students and 28 staff members, while approximately 2,488 additional people connected to the wider school community will benefit indirectly.

Our Social Care Manager, Lucy, has begun distributing our newly published book series through our KICKIT Mobile Libraries! πŸ“š

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mayor Steven Del Duca, the City of Vaughan, and the Spirit of Generosity for their incredible support of our KICKIT Mobile Library Program. Your partnership is helping bring books, learning, and opportunity to children who need it most.

The Pili and Juma series teaches practical health and wellbeing, including malaria prevention, nutrition, safe water and menstrual equity.

The Shaila and Raheem series explores education, perseverance, friendship across different faiths, community leadership and service.

The Kenneth and Serianne series uses warm, funny family stories to teach respect, kindness, healthy boundaries and resolving conflict.

Students were also introduced to our new KICKIT song, encouraging them to read and write every day, ask questions, work through unfamiliar words and use knowledge to build their futures. πŸŽΆπŸ’š

We are delivering 250 birth kits in total to Madundas, Luhanga, Simike and Mpolo dispensaries. πŸ€±πŸΏπŸ’›

Today, we delivered 100 kits to Madundas and 50 to Luhanga. Tomorrow, another 50 will go to Simike and 50 to Mpolo.

We provide birth kits to every woman delivering at these four dispensaries, helping support safer and more dignified births.

Thank you to our Social Care Manager, Lucy, for continuing to uplift women and help ensure mothers have the essential supplies they need during delivery.

A walking stick is not one size fits all. It must be fitted while the person is standing at their full height to ensure the correct support, balance and posture.

After an accident, Halima struggled with walking. Through our physiotherapy outreach, she was assessed and properly fitted for a walking stick to help her move more safely and confidently.

Halima is receiving support from our Clinical Officer, Silvester, and RCSI physiotherapy graduate Rebecca Grealy. This is part of our work to grow physiotherapy services through the Phons and Mary Polyclinic and bring practical, ongoing care directly into the communities we serve. πŸ’š

Our Community Healthcare Workers recently took part in physiotherapy training so they can better support patients and families in their own homes. 🏑

A huge thank you to our RCSI volunteers, Becca Grealy and Leon Lacey, who worked alongside Olive Branch graduate Silvester to bring physiotherapy into the communities we serve. Together, they are helping more patients access practical support while introducing families and communities to the physiotherapy services available through our Phons and Mary Polyclinic. πŸ’š

πŸ’§ Another well. Another school. Another community with reliable access to clean water! πŸ’§

We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of a new sustainable water well at Uyole Primary School in Mbeya, Tanzania.

This well will support:

πŸ‘§πŸΏ 1,244 pupils β€” 643 girls and 601 boys
πŸ‘©πŸΏβ€πŸ« 24 teachers and 4 support staff
🏘️ An estimated 2,488 people from the surrounding community

Before the well was completed, the school had gone three months without a reliable water source and was spending approximately 15,000 TZS every day to purchase water for cooking, sanitation and cleaning the toilets.

Reliable water means improved hygiene, safer food preparation, better health and a healthier learning environment for every child.

A huge thank you to Bees, Trees and Water for making this project possible. Your support is creating lasting change for an entire school and its surrounding community. πŸ’™πŸŒ
