A massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit
Turkey and Syria on Monday killed more than 2,600 people and toppled more than 6,600 buildings in the region.

More than 1.500 casualties have been reported and the number is expected to increase much more.

Happy Lunar New Year🐇

Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. It is the most important holiday in China, and it is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, and countries with a significant overseas Chinese population. While the official dates encompassing the holiday vary by culture, those celebrating consider it the time of the year to reunite with immediate and extended family.

Commonly known as the Spring Festival in China, Lunar New Year is a fifteen-day celebration marked by many traditions. At home, families decorate windows with red paper cuttings and adorn doors with couplets expressing auspicious wishes for the new year. Shopping for holiday sundries in open-air markets and cleaning the house are also beloved traditions. The Lunar New Year’s Eve reunion dinner is the highlight that kicks off the holiday, a feast with a spread of symbolic dishes, such as a whole fish representing abundance, that bring good luck and fortune. The fifteenth and final day of the holiday is the Lantern Festival, during which people have tangyuan, or sweet glutinous rice balls, and children carry lanterns around the neighborhood at night to mark the end of the celebration.

Each night in Toronto up to 2,000 youth struggle to find a safe place to call home🏠

As we move into the holiday season - a time of year that often brings the harsh reality of homelessness to light for these unique individuals - YWS will make sure that a welcoming, warm, and safe home is given to youth who don't have a place to call their own🤍

creArt Foundation will be offering support by running free in person art workshops for these youth and families✨

Their core values are: Women Empowerment; Inclusion; Economic and Social Equality, Advocacy, Gender Equality, Community Engagement, Multiculturalism, and Minority Visibility🤩

“Minority Canadians have specific barriers and needs that require tailored solutions. Afghan women, in particular Hazaras, in Afghanistan and Canada face multi-layered systemic discriminations such as disproportionate access to education, employment, and health services. Hazara Women Organization was created by Hazara women due to the apparent need of promoting social, political, and economic inclusion of women in Canada and abroad.

Hazara Women Organization is certified as a Not-For-Profit Organization by Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act. HWO as per it’s mission statement is currently active in it’s advocacy, private sponsorship, and settlement of vulnerable Afghans.” - Hazara Women Organization
