What can a film capture that history books can’t?

You Are on Indian Land (1969) documents a powerful moment of Indigenous resistance at Akwesasne, where Kanien’kéhaka (Mohawk) protesters blocked an international bridge to challenge restrictions on cross-border movement.

Made by the Indian Film Crew, the first all-indigenous unit at the National Film Board of Canada, the film stands as both a record of resistance and an example of filmmaking as an act of witnessing.

Indigeneity brings together three short films exploring climate health:

Rewilding is about restoring species, ecosystems, and natural processes — creating the conditions for nature to recover and ecosystems to become more resilient and self-sustaining.

From Pacific salmon in BC to jaguars, elephants, and bison around the world, The Rewilders follows conservationists working to bring ecosystems back to life, one species and landscape at a time.

At Swimming Upstream, you’ll experience Rewildersthefilm alongside two short films from samitqiic ʔiiḥmisʔas (Salmon Parks), exploring restoration, salmon conservation, and Indigenous-led approaches to protecting our ecosystems.

Then, stay for a panel discussion to take the conversation beyond the screen.
