Aeriosa Artistic Director, Julia Taffe and Bandaloop Lead Teacher, Suzanne Gallo hosted an Intro to Vertical Dance Workshop for Urban Jazz Dance Company (UJDC) at Bandaloop Studios in Oakland California. After years of meeting with UJDC Artistic Director, Antoine Hunter on Zoom, it was so rewarding to gather with this great group of dancers in person. Thank you to Antoine and Bandaloop Studios for supporting Julia's outreach collaboration with UJDC inviting more Deaf artists to try vertical dance.

Aeriosa Artistic Director, Julia Taffe joins Butterflies in Spirit Artistic Director, Palexelsiya, (Lorelei) Williams in the podcast series, Narrative Shift hosted by Natasha Tony - the founder of Elevate Inclusion Strategies

This conversation, entitled 'Choreographing Change' explores how two types of creative expressions can come together to create something truly unique and healing for its members.

11 years ago, Indigenous activist Palexelsiya (Lorelei) Williams felt a deep calling to create a dance to honour Canada’s missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two Spirited people. That one-off dance sparked many more and led to a partnership between Palexelsiya’s dance troupe Butterflies in Spirit and Julia Taffe’s Aeriosa Dance Society. This collaboration continues to heal and inspire. They describe their dances as more ceremonies than performances. This deeply moving episode honours all MMIWG2S, their ancestors and the power of creative collaboration.

We hope you can carve out the time to listen to these two inspirational leaders talk about this co-creative collaboration fostering healing through dance and ceremony. Here is a wee clip of Julia speaking candidly about her role as a leader of Aeriosa.
