This mental health week, May 4-10, we are recognizing that eating disorders are serious and real mental health disorders. Support and awareness should be available, no matter how a mental health condition appears. Awareness means avoiding assumptions, challenging popular stigmas and creating a safe enviroment to have conversations about eating disorders🤍

Eating Disorder Conference of Canada, Halifax I had the opportunity to spend a few days listening and learning from many of Canada's greatest researchers, clinicians, and change-makers in the eating disorder landscape. We heard of innovative ways to make treatment more accessible, what other groups have developed, and how the can collaborate and scale its Post Secondary Student Support Program, launched in 2022. Thank you, at in Nova Scotia, for developing and implementing a Peer Support Program specifically for eating disorders. And to , Scientist and Lead of the Disorder Research Lab at Children's Hospital of , which is an early-intervention model for youth that builds community capacity to detect and provide an initial, quick response to early-stage eating disorders. It was great for , Senior Advisor at WaterStone Foundation, and me to engage and connect with many individuals who have devoted themselves to the field of eating disorders. If there's one thing we can learn, it's that there is lots more work to do; we must work together and not work in silo's. continues to grow the Student Support Program. More schools are recognizing that students are struggling on campus. Help us continue to make a difference.

It was great to connect with at the University of Toronto Mental Health Resource Clinic recently. She’s taking the lead on the Eating Disorder Clinic Initiative with the University of Toronto in partnership with WaterStone Foundation. Joanna will lead the development of an innovative and comprehensive program to provide a continuum of care for students. She will also lead health promotion activities, clinical support and resources for students addressing a critical gap in services for students struggling with eating disorders.

If someone in your life is dealing with an eating disorder, your support can make a bigger difference than you realize. But knowing how to support them can feel confusing.

In this post we’re talking about a few things that actually help. We hope this post can help one person feel more supported. Save this for later and send it to someone who may need it!

Eating disorder prevention starts with changing the conversations we have about food, bodies, and worth. Health isn’t defined by size, and nourishment isn’t something we need to earn💜

February is Eating Disorders Awareness Month.

Eating disorders are serious, treatable mental health conditions that deserve attention, compassion, and access to care.

Awareness is only the starting point. Real progress requires reducing stigma, encouraging early support, and expanding access to evidence based treatment.

Waterstone Foundation is committed to advancing this work this month and every month. 💜
