Unfortunately, today’s performance at VideoCabaret - Deanne Taylor Theatre has been postponed due to an unexpected illness in the creative team.

Rest assured that Marathon Macbeth will still happen this spring! Stay tuned for information about a new performance date.

All the funds they raise through Marathon Macbeth will still support The Garden Initiative, Ruff’s new outreach program for young parents under 24 years of age.

Enjoy your weekend and stay tuned for updates on the Marathon. And a huge thank you to everyone who has supported their youth initiative!

Coming soon to the Deanne Taylor Theatre 🎭

On Sunday April 12, Shakespeare in the Ruff will stage a one-day-only MARATHON MACBETH. Directed by Kwaku Okyere and staged with the generous support of VideoCabaret, Ruff’s 2026 Winter Tale event is a durational theatrical experiment-slash-fundraiser in support of The Garden Initiative, their new pilot program that offers arts education to teen parents. Dora-winners Christine Horne and Dan Mousseau will perform a condensed version of the Scottish play’s infamous marriage over… and over… and over again. The more money Ruff raises, the longer the actors will go!

Where and when will this whacky experiment happen?
Deanne Taylor Theatre in Leslieville (10 Busy Street, Toronto). The performance will start at 1:30pm on April 12, and run for a minimum of two hours.

How will donations affect the performance?
With every $500 we raise, they will add another 30 minutes to the performance, up to a maximum of five additional hours.

Click this link to donate today! https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/marathon-macbeth

What happens if the fundraising goal is exceeded?

Past the $5000 mark, they’ll start to introduce *surprise elements* into the performance, to make things even more ridiculous for their two stars!

Can I come watch?
The performance on April 12 will be open to the public and FREE to attend. You’re welcome to drop in anytime, and come and go throughout the event. Follow them on Instagram for updates on just how long their dynamic duo will spend in their Mackers mobius strip.

VideoCabaret is proud to invite the to the this month for their production of The Princess.

The Princess is the Chekov Collective's seventh presentation of an Anton Chekhov short story, as part of their Page to Stage Theatrical Readings of Literary Works. The Princess tells the story of Vera Gavrilovna, a wealthy noblewoman and a tireless admirer of her own virtue, who retreats to a monastery in search of spiritual renewal. Surrounded by polite silence, she takes this as devotion—until a chance meeting with a former employee from her estate threatens to shatter her delusion.

A subject. is a contemporary dance work that confronts the space between performance and simply being. Through a feminist lens, the piece reflects on gaze, power, and the shifting dynamics of agency under observation. Influenced by the writings of Simone de Beauvoir, A subject. asks where autonomy resides when identity is continually shaped by others, and what it means to move from object to subject within the act of being watched.

Performed by: Abby Silvera, Clara Isgro, Meghan McMartin, Micaela Van Rensburg
Composers: Ben Yoganathan and Hanna Mulak

This Skin is Not My Own is a visceral exploration of gender stereotypes through sensorial
escapism. Faced with the inevitable performance of being in a body, this piece questions gender
norms and stereotypes while using dance as its escape vehicle. Created through a q***r lens, it
questions the layers of expectations placed on us through our supposed gender and our ability
to tear through, transform, and rebuild them.

In A Landscape was originally conceived as a moving meditation capturing the timeless
emergence and disappearances of forms. Eventually, I understood that the context for such a
performance would need to be a durational setting where audiences can come and go. I began
to explore more concrete, physical and rhythmic images that emphasizes the permanence of
kinetic presence while also touching upon the finiteness of form.

I dreamed all this, and this I’m dreaming
and I’ll dream this again. Everything
will repeat and realize its final form,
and you will dream whatever I dream.

FEB 15TH ▻ 8:30PM

Shapeshift is a contemporary solo performance exploring the personal landscapes of gender, identity, and vulnerability. Through a body that fractures, contracts, expands, and regenerates, the solo moves from resistance to softening — from protection to surrender. It treats uncertainty not as a flaw but as a creative compass, revealing how vulnerability holds potential for strength and transformation. Shapeshift asks: what if the moments of falling apart are the very moments that give us life again?
