How many steps does it take to come closer to Jesus? In the Gospel of John, the answer is: “Come and see.”

Often, simply hearing about Jesus is not enough. People hear that Jesus loves the world and cares for those on the margins; they also hear that Jesus challenges the law and overturns the powers of this world. But hearing is not the same as seeing.

Jesus Christ is present with us in the sacraments, among his disciples, and among the poor. So come, and see for yourself.

“When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, ‘What are you looking for?’ They said to him, ‘Rabbi’ (which translated means Teacher), ‘where are you staying?’ He said to them, ‘Come and see.’ They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day.” — John 1:38–39

A heartfelt thank you to our Toronto Police officers for taking time on a busy Sunday to join us at Samaritan Space Sunday Lunch.

What began as a visit quickly became tossing salad, serving lunch, sharing conversations, and spending time with our unhoused neighbours.

In the city, people are often taught whom to fear, whom to avoid, and whom to keep at a distance. Some see unhoused people first as a danger. Others see uniforms and authority the same way.

But around Christ’s table, those labels are not the final word.

Here, we meet one another as neighbours: serving, receiving, eating, talking, and sharing the same table.

“Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” — Luke 5:30

The Gospel has always had a way of bringing together people whom society would rather keep apart.

Thank you to everyone who came to serve, to eat, and to share the table with us.

A free meal should never mean a lesser meal. 🍽️❤️
Our Sunday Community Lunch is about more than filling a plate. Good food is part of dignity—and, in a small way, each shared table can reflect God’s banquet: welcoming, generous, and with room for all.
We want to keep serving meals that are not only free, but warm, delicious, and made with care. But cooking time is tight, and we need more hands!
Come volunteer with us—cook, prep, serve, or help clean up. Even occasional help makes a difference.
Help us keep the table full. All are welcome.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who prepared the food, served our guests, set up, cleaned up, and helped make the day possible. Your generosity, teamwork, and joyful service turned a simple meal into a warm time of fellowship and connection.

We gathered for a Smudging Ceremony led by Julie, as one way to honour Indigenous History Month.

St. Margaret New Toronto stands on land with a long Indigenous history, where many Indigenous communities continue to live, pray, work, and build life today.
We came together with open hearts, knowing that as church we must face this history with humility and repentance, and continue seeking healing, justice, and right relationship.
With gratitude to the Creator, we thank Julie for guiding us in this time of prayer, reflection, and community.
