The World Giving Report offers a global view of generosity, with insights into giving trends in Canada and more than 30 countries worldwide.

In 2025, 71% of Canadians reported donating money - surpassing the global average of 61% - and contributed an average of 0.9% of their income. Volunteering also remains a key part of the picture, with 22% of Canadians giving their time to the causes they care about.

These trends point to a solid foundation of generosity, while also signaling continued potential to grow both the depth and reach of philanthropic support.

What drives generosity?

The World Giving Report 2026: Donor Insights reveals that generosity is shaped by more than wealth. From belonging and trust to social norms and personal motivations, the findings offer fresh insight into why people give and how stronger cultures of giving can be built.

Drawing on the views of more than 60,000 people across 105 countries and territories, the report explores how people give and what influences generosity around the world.

The findings challenge assumptions, highlight what encourages people to support good causes, and offer valuable insights for donors, charities, policymakers and anyone interested in strengthening civil society.
