A food shipment of 1024 boxes of dried vegetable mix was sent from Ontario Christian Gleaners to support communities in Jamaica, helping strengthen food security and expand access to nutritious meals for vulnerable families.

Additionally, a shipment of football gear was sent which will be provided to Jamaican youth to encourage physical activity, teamwork, and positive community engagement while supporting the development of young athletes.

In the second photo, a donation of 1100 boxes and 16 drums of vegetable mix, Mitchell’s soup and barley was sent to Haiti to help strengthen food assistance programs and improve access to nutritious meals for vulnerable families and communities.

The maternity ward at Mahaicony Cottage Hospital in Guyana has been upgraded with new equipment and facility improvements to better support mothers, newborns, and healthcare workers.

With delivery beds, a neonatal cot, an autoclave, and other essential upgrades now in place, the ward has already recorded 10 safe deliveries since reopening.

This project is helping improve maternal healthcare access, strengthen community trust in local services, and ensure women in rural communities can give birth safely and with dignity.

No student should have to choose between their education and their next meal.

Food insecurity is a daily reality for many university students in Jamaica—but initiatives like the GK Campus Connect Food Bank are making a difference.

With support from the GraceKennedy Foundation and FFTP Canada, 200 students receive monthly food assistance—including 60 students directly supported by FFTP Canada—helping them stay nourished, focused, and on track to succeed.

Together, we can build a future where every student has access to the nutrition they need to thrive.

Through the Professional Driving School in Honduras, students like Jhonny, are gaining the skills needed to enter industries like transportation and logistics.

With support from our donors, 10 students received scholarships covering transportation and meals—removing barriers that often prevent people living in poverty from accessing technical education.

After completing theoretical classes, driving simulations, and 240 hours of hands-on truck driving, many graduates are now on track to secure employment as professional drivers.

Together, we are promoting road safety, creating jobs, and building stronger, more sustainable communities.

Supporting bee farmers is essential to the rebuilding efforts in Jamaica post-Hurricane Melissa. Bees provide income and stability to business and families, while also supporting the pollination needed to restore local agriculture and food systems. Your support means bringing renewed hope to Jamaicans affected by the storm.

Education isn’t a privilege, it’s a fundamental right at every age. On this International Day of Education, let’s remember that accessible education means breaking the cycle of poverty, distance, discrimination, and exclusion—whether you’re 5 or 51. When we ensure every person can learn, we unlock solutions to nearly every challenge we face. Your support for education empowers us to provide scholarships for primary school children, support literacy training for adult women in Guyana, and upgrade essential infrastructure like running water, sanitation, and playgrounds for schools. Every child, every adult, every community deserves the chance to learn and grow.

My heart is full!!!

Allow me to rewind and share why…

I am returning to Toronto after spending the weekend with my international colleagues and dear friends who managed and ensured the successful back-to-back ex*****on of multiple projects 3-days in a row! I was privileged to witness firsthand the level of planning, skills, collaboration, and coordination required and at play to serve and support families and individuals who were deeply affected by Hurricane Melissa this past weekend.

Thank you Kivette Silvera, Mark Khouri, Marsha Burrell-Rose, Nakhle Hado, Maurice Taylor, Gary Chin Quee, Susan Moore, Petri-Ann Henry, Desmond King, and so many others who are daily working to empower individuals, children, and communities all across the beautiful island of Jamaica!

Thank you Celia Meikle CPA,CA Licensed Public Accountant, a serving director and treasurer of Food For The Poor-Canada’s board, for joining and supporting us this weekend.

Staff from both the US and Canadian Food For The Poor offices were in Jamaica supporting our deeply dedicated and caring Food For The Poor-Jamaica team.

A huge CONGRATS and BIG UP to all who made this incredible weekend possible!! Such a blessing to see so many individuals and children with a huge smile and sharing hugs in gratitude! 🙌🏽

Stay tuned to learn more about the wide range of projects implemented.

Food For The Poor - United in God’s work. 🙏🏽💙🇯🇲

THANK YOU Ariana and family (Nicky, Jomo, and Joshua) for the generous donation, raised from your self-led fundraising campaign, "Cupcakes for the Caribbean". Your gift will change lives, as families in Jamaica continue to rebuild following Hurricane Melissa. This is the power of one person deciding to make a difference.
