This video explores how the design team working on Ookwemin Minising is taking a people-first approach to street design, imagining how a little quirkiness can introduce moments of discovery and joy into the daily commute. Ultimately, this makes for a better neighbourhood.

About the project: We’re working on the fundamentals needed to develop new housing on this new island created through flood protection, called Ookwemin Minising. Design for the public spaces, streets, stormwater and sanitary pipes, and utility ducts that support the building of new homes started in summer 2025. Our international design team is integrating design for streets and public spaces with a review of the density and built form on the island.

About the design team: Led by a partnership of global professional services company GHD and global design studio SLA, the team includes Allies and Morrison (Architecture and Urban Design firm), Trophic Design (an Indigenous-owned landscape architecture firm), Transsolar (an international climate engineering firm), accessible design consultants Level Playing Field, with community outreach and public engagement led by Monumental Projects.

Toronto’s waterfront is evolving — and you can be part of it. Public voting is now open to help name the City’s two new electric ferries. These vessels will serve residents and visitors for decades to come as part of Toronto’s modernized and electrified ferry fleet.

The City of Toronto formed a dedicated Ferry Naming Committee — made up of community members, waterfront and Island stakeholders, and City staff — who carefully reviewed submissions to create a thoughtful shortlist. Now it’s your turn to have a say.

Cast your vote now: https://bit.ly/47um66h

Voting closes April 6 at 11:59 p.m.

This video explores the vision of “growing streets” for Ookwemin Minising, where nature is woven into all spaces and where streets are more than just a way to get from one place to another.🌲

From dense urban landscape to a "healing forest," Quayside is designed to be a place of transition.

Ecology is one of the three pillars shaping the design of Quayside’s public realm – and a key part of the essential infrastructure and public spaces Waterfront Toronto is delivering to set the foundation for future homes, commercial spaces, and community life.

You can see this for yourself in our new Quayside Public Realm Immersive Experience. Look for the green markers in chapters like Small Street or Water’s Edge Promenade to explore: https://bit.ly/4aJQSJl

Keating Channel Pedestrian Bridge is taking shape!

With its signature “S” shaped suspended arch connected by an array of fanning cables that evokes the sun’s path during solstices and equinoxes, the bridge will provide a vital active transportation connection and serve as a striking gateway between downtown and Ookwemin Minising.

On track for completion in mid-2028, Keating Channel Pedestrian Bridge is moving from design vision to implementation. Read the latest update on our blog now: https://bit.ly/4b8QXYm
