It’s official! Today we celebrated the return of a beloved waterfront landmark.

Originally gifted to Toronto by the Mayor of Amsterdam in 1974, the Amsterdam Bridge has officially reopened following a major rehabilitation led by CreateTO on behalf of the City of Toronto, restoring a vital pedestrian link to Harbourfront Centre and our year-round community campus.

Thank you to Mayor Olivia Chow, Consul General of the Netherlands Marjan Schippers, Deputy Mayor Malik and all partners who helped bring this restoration to life. We can’t wait to see the bridge full of people (and plenty of selfies) this summer and beyond.

Here’s to a renewed connection between residents and visitors to better access the waterfront and all that it offers! 🌊

A big day for community, play and youth sport ⚽❤️

Today marked the opening of our new community soccer pitch by Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities — the very first pitch to open as part of their national initiative to build 25 community soccer pitches across Canada by 2029.

Built as free, inclusive and accessible spaces for kids and families to play, gather and connect, these pitches are about more than the game itself. “They’re about creating spaces where kids can build confidence, feel connected, and simply have the opportunity to play,” said Marco Di Buono, President, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.

Whether it’s pickup games, community programming, after-school hangs or summer afternoons on the waterfront, we can’t wait to see this space become part of the community.

Huge thanks to for bringing this pitch to life at Harbourfront Centre. We are incredibly honoured to be the home of the first pitch in this national initiative ❤️

“I wanted to capture the energy of the city at its most celebratory: when people come together and the atmosphere feels electric.”

Meet Patrick Lightheart, the artist behind Harbourfront Centre’s new mural, A City in Celebration.

A Toronto-based contemporary artist working across photography, digital art and mixed media, Patrick is known for blending classical imagery with modern, street-inspired aesthetics, creating emotionally charged work that explores identity, resilience and community.

Unveiling this May, the mural is set to transform our waterfront into a new space for public art, shaped by the creativity of this incredible city.

Come experience the city through Patrick’s eyes. More details coming soon.

Future leaders in the making 💫

We were proud to host ’s Play to Lead summit at Harbourfront Centre last month. Participants explored a variety of hands-on workshops, including Scrub & Butter, self-reflection, personal branding and more, all designed to empower the next generation of women in sport and leadership. Programs like this intentionally include underrepresented communities to ensure the next generation of leaders reflects everyone.

Through Play to Lead, athletes don’t just play — they grow. With real-world leadership experiences and ongoing mentorship, they build confidence, expand their networks, and step into leadership both on and off the field. 🤸‍♀️

Because when girls are given the tools to lead, the impact goes far beyond the field.

Candy, but make it science 🍬🔬

Things are about to get seriously sweet! Don’t miss the last Kids’ Night Out on April 25th with , where kids ages 5-12 get the chance to put their favourite candies to the test, discovering which float and which sink as they explore the science of density. Then, they’ll turn marshmallows into a colourful stained-glass creation.

It’s all part of a fun-filled evening of hands-on activities, a pizza party and new friendships (no parents allowed - so you can enjoy a night out of your own, too 😉). Led by an enthusiastic team of experts, it’s a Saturday night full of curiosity, creativity and fun for your little ones.

We have some big news for Harbourfront Centre and our community 🇨🇦

The Government of Canada has generously renewed funding through the Harbourfront Centre Funding Program (HCFP), totaling $42.5M over the next 5 years.

This funding means we’re able to keep building on what makes Harbourfront Centre so special. It allows us to support more artists, strengthen our programming and continue evolving our waterfront campus into a more vibrant, accessible destination for all 6M+ of you who visit each year. ✨

We couldn’t be more grateful and excited for what’s to come! Here’s to more art, more culture and more time by the water 💙

---

Consider this your sign to stop scrolling and start making... because there’s nothing more satisfying than creating something from scratch and being able to say “I made this” 👀🎨

Our Craft & Design workshops are a chance to slow down, work with your hands, learn from our talented Artists-in-Residence and get lost in the process, from wheel throwing to glassblowing and everything in between. Plus, a fresh and exciting new wave of courses just went live (fair warning, you might find your next obsession) 💫

Come get inspired, get your hands a little messy and leave with something you’re proud of!

There are two sides to the legendary David Suzuki: the scientist you know for sounding the alarm on the climate crisis, and the sunnier side who lights up talking about his grandchildren and enjoys a good morning workout.

In What You Won’t Do For Love, you’ll see both sides on stage alongside his life partner, Tara Cullis. Together, they reflect on the things that matter most: their lifelong commitment to the planet and to each other.

For Suzuki, this isn’t just a performance. It’s a chance to bring people together to reflect, connect and leave feeling a little more resilient about the future we share. 🌎💚

That’s a wrap on another skating season at Harbourfront Centre ⛸️❄️

With the support of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, we were able to expand our rink, introduce new Rink Programs and add more skating aids to increase access for children and families. Their commitment to equitable access to sport and physical activity made a meaningful difference on our waterfront this winter.

From first-time skaters to golden-hour laps and DJ Skate Nights, the rink once again brought people together and reminded us why shared public spaces matter.

The ice may be gone, but the memories remain. Thank you to everyone who joined us this season. We look forward to welcoming you back next winter 💙
