Days after moving to East Toronto, Steph Lau found out she was pregnant. Knowing her OB was connected to Michael Garron Hospital was an immediate relief.

“As a first-time mom, I was anxious more often than I’d like to admit. But every time I walked through the doors at Michael Garron, I felt truly seen,” she says. “I was looked after with warmth and dedication by a team that saw me as a whole person, not just a number.”

When a routine visit with her family doctor alerted East Toronto resident Dale Skinner to a potential heart issue, she was immediately referred to Michael Garron Hospital.

Jody McKay’s family has history at our hospital. Her mom and mother-in-law worked here. Her husband Matt turned to us for knee surgery. And Jody came here in early labour.

Her son Killian spent his first week at our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where the care team became like an extended family.

Today, as the McKays plan to celebrate Killian’s fifth birthday with his best buddies, they know presence is the ultimate gift. They’re inviting their loved ones to join them in giving back to our hospital.

“So much can happen during labour and in the precious moments that follow. Donations like Jody’s help ensure we can support our youngest patients in getting a safe and healthy start to life,” says Dr. Jeje Ladele, Neonatologist.

It was a beautiful evening at The Toronto Hunt as some of the hospital’s most ardent supporters came together for the Celebration of Food & Wine. Presented by DeClute Real Estate, the event recognized the role of philanthropy in making the hospital what it is today.
