One in five patients in our Stavro Emergency Department (ED) is aged 65 or older. To address their unique needs, our expert team participated in an upskilling project focused on caring for elderly patients in the ED.

“The transformative learning has been incredible as we talk through the challenges that are unique to the ED environment and consider perspectives from nursing, pharmacy, physicians and patients,” Dr. Ruchi Mohindra said.

A third of patients in our Stavro Emergency Department need X-rays to diagnose lung infections, broken bones, heart disease and other conditions. That’s over 4,000 scans a month!

When the oldest of our two machines reached the end of its serviceable life, we urgently needed a replacement. Peter and Diana Thomson were among the donors who helped our hospital acquire a new machine so that our patients could continue to access needed care.

For the fourth year running, lawyers Michael Currie and Claire Seaborn are bringing people together for Good Laughs in support of our hospital. Their event features Toronto lawyers doing their best stand-up routines. Shows are now sold out and wait lists are in full effect!

As a youngster, Gary Grant visited our Stavro Emergency Department with bumps and bruises. As a police officer, he was impressed by our emergency team’s care in times of crisis.

When he needed our hospital, Gary received the same outstanding care he’d always witnessed from our expert teams. Later, he learned he could include the hospital in his legacy planning while still providing for his kids. To support our community’s health for generations to come, Gary planned a gift to our hospital in his will. This special commitment represents a continuation of his promise and life’s work helping people throughout East Toronto.
