🚹 When Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke at a Toronto synagogue on June 1 about the scourge of antisemitism following the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack, he described the problem, but offered few solutions.

However, meaningfully addressing Jew-hate means more than just offering a prognosis; it means providing practical prescriptions to address antisemitism, including identifying its culprits, and demonstrating zero tolerance for its purveyors.

Here is the speech that Prime Minister Carney should have made articulating his plan for combating raging antisemitism in Canada.

Hey Massey College, how can a conference meaningfully address antisemitism while sidestepping the Jewish people’s historical, cultural, and religious ties to the Land of Israel, and the extent to which denying those ties has become a contemporary form of antisemitism?

“Our academic institutions and government are willing to address antisemitism only insofar as the discussion sanitizes the connection between Judaism and the land of Israel.” - University of Toronto chemistry professor Dvira Segal

đŸ§” Today marks the anniversary of the start of the Six-Day War.

Yet in a recent CBC News story, a so-called correction obscures the historical realities of the conflict, why it was significant, and what its legacy means today.

The Six-Day War is NOT a story of occupation; It is the story of a Jewish state facing existential threats from hostile forces, and refusing to stand by while those threats became reality.

Guillaume Dufour, a sociology professor at the UniversitĂ© du QuĂ©bec Ă  MontrĂ©al (UQAM), has been conducting a large-scale survey examining Quebecers’ perceptions of living together.

The findings are deeply troubling. Beyond revealing significant misconceptions and negative attitudes toward Jews, they point to broader challenges in how Quebec society perceives its Jewish community and underscore the need for the Quebec government to do more to combat the prejudices and stereotypes that continue to shape public opinion:

1⃣ 74% of Quebecers believe that Muslims are likely to be victims of prejudice or hatred. Only 58% think the same about Jews, despite vastly different hate crime rates.

2⃣ 31% of respondents believe that Jews have too much power over Quebec or Canadian politics.

3⃣ 28% believe that too many Jewish immigrants have been accepted into Canada.

4⃣ 33% think that Israelis have taken advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic.

✅ Success! In a May 25 article, CBC News reporter Cameron MacIntosh falsely reported that more than 70,000 Palestinian civilians have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023. In truth, however, the Gaza Health Ministry does not distinguish between civilians and combatants in its casualty counts, and the IDF claims a substantial percentage of those killed were members of Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups. For CBC to assert that all Palestinian fatalities were civilians was a bold falsehood that deserved to be corrected.

HRC lodged a complaint with CBC News executives asking for an immediate correction, and we are pleased to note that the article was amended and a correction published.

🚹 In a May 26 broadcast on CBC The National and May 27 article, CBC Foreign Correspondent Chris Brown framed Israel’s response to Hezbollah terrorist drone attacks as evidence of escalating aggression while providing little context about Hezbollah’s role as a designated terrorist organization and its ongoing attacks against Israelis.

Brown’s reporting misrepresented remarks by an Israeli official, and suggested Israel was targeting civilians, when in fact the quote demonstrates nothing of the sort. Yet again, Brown’s reporting misinforms the Canadian public.

CBC Foreign Correspondent Chris Brown’s latest article and broadcast are both guilty of operating on a baseless assumption that Israel is the reason behind regional instability. In his May 26 CBC The National broadcast, “Escalating attacks jeopardize Israel, Hezbollah ceasefire,” he mentioned ...

✅ Success! CBC News has twice in recent months issued corrections or acknowledgements of errors involving reporting on Israel, including an April correction admitting there was “no substance” to a claim that Israel created a mass grave in Gaza.

And now, in a May 29 review, CBC Ombudsman Maxime Bertrand upheld a complaint by HonestReporting Canada, agreeing that a 2025 report by Foreign Correspondent Chris Brown, where he claimed that Israel killed 112 Palestinians waiting in line for flour, was incorrect. In reality, they were killed in a stampede. CBC has now issued a formal correction, and we expect that moving forward, Brown’s reporting will be factually-accurate.

For at least the second time in as many months, CBC has admitted that it overstepped by presenting claims against Israel as fact, rather than simply as allegations. On April 2, the broadcaster issued an on-air correction related to an earlier report, where a representative from Glia Equal Care, an a...

A powerful piece from The Globe and Mail editorial board.

Mark Carney had the opportunity to take on a group largely responsible for the dramatic rise in antisemitism across Canada: Anti-Zionists.

Instead, as the Globe writes, "This is where the Prime Minister’s courage failed him....He was unable or unwilling to articulate what is behind the “scourge of antisemitism” that he rightly condemned."

In IPolitics, Ariella Kimmel states something Mark Carney is unwilling to say: Anti-Zionism is just the latest form of antisemitism.

The idea that Jews, alone among the peoples of the world, do not have a right to self-determination, or that the Jewish people’s religious and historical connection to Israel is invalid, is antisemitism in disguise.

If Mark Carney is serious about confronting antisemitism, he must recognize that anti-Zionism is not merely correlated with anti-Jewish hatred; it fuels it, legitimizes it, and increasingly serves as its primary vehicle.

🚹 A May 25 CityNews Vancouver segment by reporter Jack Rabb on returning Gaza flotilla activists largely repeated dramatic allegations against Israel without evidence or meaningful scrutiny.

Flotilla activists were given a platform to claim “systematic torture,” beatings, and the existence of “9,000 hostages” in Israeli custody, while no mention was made about the lack of aid on board the flotilla, alleged extremist ties among flotilla organizers and the nature of the flotilla being a publicity stunt.

🔗

Yet another Canadian news media outlet is providing highly sympathetic coverage to a group of activists who recently participated in the anti-Israel flotilla to Gaza and returned to Vancouver, where they were met with a loud demonstration inside the city’s airport. The May 25 broadcast for CityNew...
