What a night of sips, smoke, and solidarity!

Allied Voices of Israel brought Toronto’s Jewish community together for our second annual Scotch and Ci**rs for Israel 🥃🚬🇮🇱

Premium scotch samples were a flowing, ci**rs were a puffing, and smooth tunes from Porch Jam and DJ Howie T were grooving all night long as we celebrated community, advocacy, and togetherness.

Good times were had by all, in support of AVI’s incredible initiatives on campus and beyond 🇮🇱👏🏻

🇮🇱 Flags of Fellowship: Standing Together for Israel

For the third year, Allied Voices for Israel (AVI) is proud to partner with the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) for Flags of Fellowship — a powerful annual initiative bringing Jewish and Christian communities together in remembrance, solidarity, and support for Israel.

Since its inaugural year in 2024, AVI has been one of the first Canadian organizations participating in this initiative, joining communities across Canada and around the world in planting Israeli flags to honor the lives lost on October 7 and to remind the Jewish people that they are not alone.

What began as a field of flags has become a lasting symbol of something much bigger: friendship between communities, standing together against antisemitism, and showing up for Israel — year after year.

We are grateful to IFCJ Canada for this meaningful partnership and for the opportunity to continue turning solidarity into action. 🇮🇱🤝

Pink has spoken out — and she’s making an important distinction: Supporting Palestinian civilians is not the same thing as targeting Jews or promoting antisemitic rhetoric.

After Macklemore used his opening set at MetLife Stadium to deliver an extended political message — including performing "Hind’s Hall", displaying Gaza-related imagery, chanting “Free Palestine,” calling the West Bank “occupied,” and accusing Israel of genocide — Pink criticized the way the message was delivered and its impact on Jewish concertgoers.

This controversy also comes against the backdrop of Macklemore’s 2014 costume, which was widely condemned as an antisemitic caricature and for which he later apologized.

Pink’s message has received public support from figures including Michelle Pfeiffer, Octavia Spencer, and Boy George.

There is room to advocate for Palestinian human rights. There is room to criticize the Israeli government. There is room to demand an end to suffering.

But Palestinian advocacy should never require demonizing Jews, Israelis, or Jewish identity.

You can care about Palestinian lives and stand against antisemitism.
You can oppose Israeli government policies and reject antisemitic stereotypes.

These things are not mutually exclusive.

An NBA star is publicly standing with Israel—and he isn’t backing down.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma has used X to condemn Hamas, Iranian-backed terrorism, and the use of civilians as human shields. In response to a “Free Palestine” protest, he argued that Palestinians also deserve “freedom from Hamas,” adding: “Compassion cannot be selective.”

When critics pushed back, Kuzma stood by his position, rejecting the idea that Hamas represents Palestinian freedom.

Since the October 7 massacre, the NBA champion has continued to voice support for Israel—making him one of the few prominent basketball players willing to speak publicly about it.

Laurier-Waterloo student and Allied Voices for Israel (AVI) Student Ambassador Jonah is voicing his concern over a recent antisemitic incident on campus, when Mezuzahs on Jewish students’ residence doors were smashed and torn down over Rosh Hashanah.

"I think moments like this make it even more important that we do not shy away from expressing who we are," writes Jonah.

"The Laurier-Waterloo jewish community is the most tight knit community Ontario and I believe that’s what we should focus on."

AVI condemns this act of antisemitism in the strongest possible terms. Hatred of any kind should not be tolerated, excused, or condoned.

Art has a unique way of cutting through noise, opening minds, and building bridges toward genuine allyship. Even when the truth behind it is painful to face.

Right now, Fauda (Israel’s most famous pop-culture export) is dominating top-10 charts across the Middle East. Holding the #1 spot in Lebanon and placing near the top in Jordan, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Egypt, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia, it has become a global phenomenon, entering the Top 10 in 43 countries worldwide.

Around the world, non-Jewish viewers are sharing how watching this season has given them a profound, "newfound insight" into the trauma of October 7th. For many non-Israeli allies, seeing these events dramatized on screen created an emotional connection that raw news coverage couldn't break through.

Inside Israel, the perspective is understandably nuanced. Many point out that no televised series could ever capture the true, unvarnished horror of what happened that day. There is a tragic irony in needing artifice to feel empathy for Jewish lives.

Yet, this moment offers a powerful opportunity for positive movement. 💙

True allyship begins when people choose to watch, listen, and seek to understand. While Fauda is fiction, the empathy it is inspiring across borders and cultures is real. We welcome every heart opened by this show, and we encourage everyone moved by it to take the next step: listen to real Israeli voices, honour real stories, and stand together in solidarity.

Culture can be the start of the conversation. Let’s keep building from here. ✨

At TMU, Concordia, SFU, and campuses nationwide, Jewish students and allies are stepping up to demand real accountability. In today's Toronto Sun, AVI Student Ambassadors Cielle and Anthony share their story on what it’s really like navigating anti-Jewish bias on campus today.

Writing from their unique perspectives as a Black-Jewish student and an Iranian student, they break down why staying silent is no longer an option - and how educating their peers, both Jewish and non-Jewish, is the key to pushing back against hatred on campus.
