This one is out of sequence and bears its argument on real Events impacting the World, Today. I had Claude write the Preamble, because I refuse to allow anger to seep into my train of Thought, especially my Private Quotes.

"Trade talks between the US and Canada collapsed on August 21, 2026, minutes before a midnight deadline that triggered 50% Tariffs on $20 billion of Canadian Exports. According to Carney, at the centre of the collapse was a US. demand for restrictions on Canada's freedom to negotiate Trade Agreements with other countries — unacceptable, it would have reduced Canada to Economic Dependency of the United States.
P.M. Carney suspended negotiations and recalled Canada's Negotiators to Ottawa, stating plainly: "Canada has what the world wants, and we will not allow any nation to determine our future."
Early September, Carney was still framing the path forward not as capitulation, but as a deal that respects Canadian sovereignty, on both sides' terms.
That was the essence; the whole distinction, playing out in real institutional stakes rather than metaphor. The demand wasn't for a Fair Trade — it was for control over the third-party relationships Canada could enter into, which is precisely exampled: "Assistance says 'I help you do what you choose'; Control says 'You can do it only if I permit you'" — displayed as an actual clause in an actual negotiation.

Canada actively diversifying Trade Partnerships rather than accepting exclusive dependency on any one power is the Article's four-stage progression running in reverse — a nation recognizing it had drifted from Interdependence toward Dependence, and pulling back, before the fourth stage, Domination, could close.
AI, being only a fraction of the tensions is consistent with everything warned about concentrated dependency: Energy, Technology, Security, Financial Systems, Critical Infrastructure — AI is simply the newest, most acute front in the pattern already named as general, not Novel.
