What an amazing time we had together at the recent District 60 Toastmasters conference. Members from our club participated in many different aspects of the Toastmasters International experience. Delivering workshops, competing in contests, and being the presiding officer for the whole conference.

Two of our members competed in contests, AND BROUGHT HOME THE HARDWARE! Andrew Mertens won the Table Topics Contest and Cathy Dranitsaris came 3rd in the Evaluation Contest.

Next year let's go three-for-three in contests and 100% attendance! The gauntlet has been thrown.

When I think about my Toastmasters family, these two pictures say a lot. The first was in August, 2019 when we were all at Toastmasters International District leader training. The second is just this last weekend at the District 60 Toastmasters annual conference.

When you get as much out of the community as we do, it can be a lifelong journey.

Blessed and honoured to have been on this journey with two amazing women. It wasn't always easy, but it was always worth it! Thank you, Aneeta Pathak and Wendy Williamson.

Integrity isn’t just something we talk about. It’s something we practice.

At tomorrow’s meeting, we’ll be exploring the theme of Integrity through speeches, feedback, and real conversations about what it means to follow through, speak honestly, and lead with consistency.

We’ll also be electing our next slate of officers. Leadership in our club starts with trust, and trust starts with integrity. This is where we choose the people who will help guide the next chapter.

If you’ve been thinking about getting more involved, this is a good time to step in.

Join us and be part of a meeting that focuses on doing things the right way.

Let us know you're coming... send an email to [email protected] and we'll send you the meeting link.

Fear of public speaking gets talked about like it’s something to eliminate.

But what if that’s the wrong goal?

At the recent Toastmasters District 60 Conference, our very own club President Orest delivered a workshop called Busting the Myth about Fear of P,ublic Speaking.

He challenged the idea that confident speakers don’t feel fear. Instead, he showed how understanding and reframing that fear is what actually moves speakers forward.

That’s what makes this club different. We don’t just practice. We question assumptions, sharpen our thinking, and grow in ways that matter outside the meeting room.

If you’re looking for that next level of growth, come check out D60 Advanced Speakers.

Somewhere above the clouds on my way home to Nova Scotia last night, I was struck by the view.

Endless sky, no boundaries, just space and possibility.

It felt like a quiet reminder of what I’ve learned over the years through Toastmasters International.

You don’t start out confident. You don’t start out polished. You start by showing up, often unsure, sometimes uncomfortable.

And over time, with practice, feedback, and a supportive community, your world expands. What once felt out of reach starts to feel possible.

This weekend in Toronto at the District 60 Toastmasters conference was another one of those moments. Being surrounded by people who are all committed to growing, stretching, and becoming better speakers and leaders has a way of shifting your perspective.

Sometimes all it takes is a change in altitude to remind you of what's out there.

Two members of D60 Advanced Speakers brought home the hardware this weekend. Even though they were representing their other clubs, we will share the joy of their success!

Congrats Andrew and Cathy for showing us how it's done!

Six of our D60 Advanced Speakers members spent the weekend at the District 60 Conference in Toronto, learning, competing, and connecting with some of the best speakers in the district.

This is what growth looks like. Showing up, stretching your skills, and surrounding yourself with people who take speaking seriously and still know how to enjoy the journey.

If you’ve ever felt like you’ve outgrown the basics and want a space where you can refine your craft, get meaningful feedback, and challenge yourself alongside experienced speakers, this is exactly what our club is about.

We meet twice a month, with both in-person and online options, and we’re always happy to welcome guests who are ready to take the next step.

Curious? Come see what it’s like.

There’s something special about getting together in person, and our recent meeting in Etobicoke was a great reminder of that.

We showed up to do what we always do: work on becoming better speakers. But what made the night stand out was the energy in the room.

People were willing to try, to stretch, to take risks, and just as importantly, to enjoy the process.

From prepared speeches to evaluations to table topics, there was a strong focus on growth. You could see members pushing themselves, refining their message, and building confidence with every minute at the lectern.

At the same time, there was plenty of laughter, encouragement, and genuine support.

That balance matters. Improving your speaking skills takes effort, but it should also be something you look forward to. When the environment is both focused and fun, people keep coming back and that’s where real progress happens.

If you’ve been thinking about improving your communication or just want to be part of a group that takes growth seriously without taking itself too seriously, come join us at a future meeting.

Community.

That is the theme for our next D60 Advanced Speakers meeting on Wednesday, April 15.

At this level, speaking is not just about individual performance. It is about how we support each other, challenge each other, and grow together. A strong community raises the standard for everyone.

Join us in person from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall.

Whether you are stepping into a role or simply coming to take it all in, you will be part of an environment focused on growth, connection, and continuous improvement.

If you are planning to attend and would like to take on a role, reach out. We are building another strong agenda.

This is where experienced speakers continue to evolve.

Pivotal Moments.

That was our theme tonight at D60 Advanced Speakers, and it led to some thoughtful, meaningful sharing from both members and guests.

These are the moments that shape us. The decisions, experiences, and turning points that influence how we lead, how we communicate, and how we show up.

A special thank you to David for his speech and for bringing the theme to life in such a compelling way.

What makes this club unique is the balance we are building. We are serious about becoming better speakers. We are intentional about growth. And at the same time, we are having fun while doing it.

That combination is what keeps people coming back.

If you are looking for a place to continue developing your speaking in a supportive, engaging environment, this is it.
