School Bus Safety
School bus safety requires students to wait at least 10 feet (5 giant steps) away from the road, wait for a complete stop before approaching, and obey all driver rules. Drivers sharing the road must always stop for flashing red lights and extended stop arms.
At the Bus Stop
-Arrive 5 minutes early.
-Stay 10 feet (5 giant steps) back from the curb or road.
-Never run after a moving bus
Getting On and Off
-Wait for the bus to fully stop and the door to open.
-Use the handrail.
-Cross 10 feet in front of the bus, never behind it.
-Make eye contact with the driver before crossing.
-Leave dropped items alone near the bus and tell an adult
Behavior on the Bus
-Find a seat fast and sit facing forward.
-Keep aisles and exits clear.
-Talk quietly and do not distract the driver.
-Keep head and arms inside the windows.
