Epilepsy Newfoundland and Labrador

Epilepsy Newfoundland and Labrador We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and providing support to individuals living with epilepsy. The diagnosis was epilepsy.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those affected by epilepsy through education, resources, advocacy, and research. Back in 1983 a mother was talking with her son's doctor. That mom, like so many mom's before and after her was very troubled by the news. Epilepsy - what was it, what would happen, would her son be ok? The mom decided to learn as much as she could about epilepsy. Searc

hing for support and information, she found little. Something was needed in Newfoundland and Labrador to provide people with epilepsy and their families with the help they needed. And so it was that this mom decided to do something about it. She gathered together a small team of volunteers, and from their work and dedication Epilepsy Newfoundland and Labrador was born. While small at first, ENL soon began to grow and expand, offering information and services to those in need. Bridging the gap between the medical and the social realities of living with epilepsy. Today, ENL offers a wide variety of programs and services available to its members and to the public. ENL remains committed to working for awareness, understanding and assistance.

As we head into June I’d like to thank all of the organizations who reached out to us about our epilepsy information and seizure first-aid session! Every single day in May was booked up, sometimes even double booked, and all of those sessions were provided 100 percent FREE! It has been amazing meeting all of these people and organizations and just goes to show how big of a demand there is for this training! 💜

If you or your organization is interested in one of our FREE epilepsy information and seizure first-aid sessions, please contact our Health Educator Ryan at: [email protected] 💜

A Message from Epilepsy Newfoundland & Labrador 💜

After much thoughtful consideration, and with heavy hearts, Epilepsy Newfoundland & Labrador would like to share that our social enterprise thrift store, Previously Loved Clothes and Things, will be closing to the public effective May 13, 2026, with final in-store shopping taking place up to that date.

Since opening in 1998, this store has been so much more than a place to shop—it has been a cornerstone of our organization and a true reflection of community spirit. This decision was not made lightly. After careful evaluation, we have made the difficult but necessary operational decision to evolve our fundraising model to support the long-term sustainability of our organization and mission.

This change allows us to focus more directly on our core mission and ensure our resources are used where they have the greatest impact.

To every person who has donated, shopped, volunteered, and helped spread the word over the years—thank you. You have played a direct role in building Epilepsy NL into what it is today. Because of you, we have been able to provide education, support, and advocacy to thousands of individuals and families across Newfoundland & Labrador.

We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to our staff and management—past and present—whose hard work, dedication, and heart made Previously Loved so special.

We invite you to stop by before May 13 to say goodbye, share memories, and take part in our final days.

Epilepsy NL is not going Anywhere 💜

While the store is closing, Epilepsy NL is not going anywhere.

We will continue to operate from the other side of our building at 351 Kenmount Road, and we are simply evolving how we fundraise. Our organization remains strong, and there will be no cuts to our programs or services.

While this is a difficult and emotional transition for our organization, we are looking ahead with care and intention—focused on strengthening and expanding our services to reach more individuals and families across Newfoundland & Labrador.

Our goal is not only to continue our work, but to grow it—enhancing our programs, increasing access to education and support, and finding new ways to better serve our communities, including those in rural and underserved areas.

Your support is still as important as ever. If you are able, we encourage you to continue supporting Epilepsy NL through donations, partnerships, and by helping us spread awareness.

The future is bright, and we are proud to continue building and expanding our impact across Newfoundland & Labrador—together. 💜
