👑 Meet Countess!

At 12 years young, Countess has entered her golden years and is ready to find a home where she can enjoy the quiet, comfortable life she deserves 💙.

Countess is a sweet, lovely girl who doesn’t mind sharing her space with other animals. However, if she had it her way, she would much rather spend her days in a quiet, peaceful home where she can relax and enjoy the simple things in life 🐾.

She’s not looking for a busy household or endless excitement, she’s looking for someone who will appreciate her for the wonderful senior lady she is and give her a cozy place to call home 🥹.

📩 Send us a message if you'd like to meet her, or drop by the shelter Tuesday-Saturday 10-6!

🥶 PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANIMALS OUTSIDE WHEN TEMPS ARE DROPPING 🥶

This morning, we arrived to find this poor little guy left outside our shelter ALL NIGHT. He was left in an area that is not within the range of our cameras, so we have no idea exactly how long he was out there (the note that was left with him was dated for yesterday) and he was not there when the staff left.

When temperatures drop below zero, leaving an animal outside without adequate shelter can be incredibly dangerous and, quite frankly, life threatening. Our animals rely on us to be their voice and to make safe choices for them, especially when the weather becomes colder.

We want to remind everyone that we have a HEATED EMERGENCY DROP BOX attached to our building.

Do NOT leave an animal outside our building.
Do NOT tie them to our doors or fencing.
Do NOT leave them in a carrier, box, or kennel exposed to the elements.

There is a safe, warm option available.

We understand that emergencies happen, and we are not here to judge someone who needs help. Our priority is getting animals to safety. But leaving a vulnerable animal outside in below zero temperatures is NOT a safe way to surrender or seek help for them.

This little guy was lucky to be found when he was ❤️‍🩹.

They deserve better 🐾.

🐾 Meet Tessa!

Tessa is a 1 year old Husky x Lab mix who is still learning that the world can be a pretty wonderful place 🥹🌍.

Tessa is a sweet girl who gets along well with other dogs and would love a canine companion to help show her the ropes 🐶. She does however, require a home without cats due to her prey drive.

When Tessa finds herself in a new environment, she can be quite fearful and unsure. She's currently working hard on building her confidence, and we know that with patience, consistency, and a family willing to let her blossom at her own pace, this girl has so much potential 🌸💙.

🥹 Meet Blair!

Blair can be a little shy when she first finds herself in a new environment, but give her a little time and patience, and you'll quickly see her sweet personality shine through ✨. Once Blair warms up to you, she's quite the sweetie pie and absolutely loves being around her people 🥰🍰.

The best part? Blair is good with both cats and dogs, making her a wonderful potential addition to a multi pet household 🏠.

Blair just needs someone willing to let her settle in at her own pace and show her that she’s safe, loved, and finally home 💙.

🐾💙 CELEBRATING OUR RVTs SHANNON & NICOLE! 💙🐾

October is RVT Month, and we couldn't let the month go by without celebrating two super important members of our Central Alberta Humane Society team, Shannon and Nicole 🩺🐾!

Shannon and Nicole wear so many hats here at CAHS. From routine medical care to unexpected emergencies, from tiny kittens to senior dogs, they are there for our animals (and staff 😘) every step of the way. They handle the messy moments, stressful moments, the heartbreaking moments, and thankfully, plenty of incredibly rewarding ones, too 💙.

Animal medicine can be challenging, but it is also so meaningful. The work they do directly impacts the lives of the animals who come through our doors, and we are so grateful to have them advocating for and caring for them every single day.

Thank you for your knowledge, compassion, patience, dedication, and for everything you do behind the scenes to help our animals get the care they deserve.

Happy RVT Month, Shannon & Nicole! We are so lucky to have you both on our team 🐾🩺💙!

💙 Meet Sky!

If you've ever met a Husky, you probably already know they tend to have a little bit of an opinion about everything 😉. Sky is NO exception 😅!

Sky is 2 years old, with a HUGE personality, an enormous amount of energy, and a heart full of love for her people 🥹✨!

Sky is an absolute sweetheart with the humans she bonds with 💙. She loves her people, and is happiest when she gets to be part of their lives. She would make a wonderful companion for someone who understands that Huskie's aren't exactly known for being couch potatoes 😂. This girl needs an active home that is prepared to keep both her body and her brain busy 🧠. She will need plenty of exercise, enrichment, structure, and opportunities to be a dog 🐕. A quick walk around the block and a nap on the couch probably isn't going to cut it for this energetic girl!

Sky is also very picky and choosy about her dog friends. She also requires a home without cats.

One very IMPORTANT thing we want Sky's future family to understand: Sky is NOT looking to be an acreage, farm, or outdoor dog ❌. Despite being a Husky with plenty of energy, Sky needs to be a part of her household and daily life. She needs people who are going to include her, and provide her with appropriate outlets for her energy.

If you're an experienced dog owner looking for an energetic, affectionate, opinionated Husky to keep you on your toes, Sky may be the girl you've been waiting for 😊🐾.
