A few weeks ago, the Red Deer Lions Club dropped off a very generous donation to Red Deer Meals on Wheels, and we are so very appreciative! The funds are going to be directed to our 'Going Home' program, which is also where we made use of the equally generous donation that the Lions gave us last year.
We are moving into year two of the Going Home program, and we have seen how much of a positive impact it has made in our community. The program provides four days of hot meals delivered by our awesome volunteers to folks who have just come out of the hospital. We know that when you're feeling yucky (even though hopefully a bit better than you were while hospitalized!!), the last thing you want to think about is preparing a nutritious meal for yourself. Meals on Wheels works in partnership with the medical and wellness professionals involved in a patient's discharge from hospital and return home to receive referrals for folks who would benefit from, and qualify for, the Going Home program.
Thanks to the Lions Club, we were able to fully fund this initiative last year and will be able to do so again this year 😍 That translates to 136 meals a year provided to clients who really need and appreciate the community care and extra time to heal!
Red Deer Meals on Wheels truly appreciates the on going support of the Red Deer Lions Club and all of the other community groups and citizens working so hard to give a helping hand to our organization and so many others in and around our city. 💓
