Mmmmmm ... mushrooms!! One (huge!) benefit of sharing space with the Food Bank is that the Meals on Wheels chef gets to use the fresh produce straight out of the greenhouses. This week, our clients had mushroom soup made with lion's mane, sh*take, and oyster mushrooms freshly harvested by the amazing staff at the Food Bank's Garden 49. YUM!🤩

MOW will have an information table at a couple of events this month ... we'll be at the Legion Senior's Expo on the 22nd (at the Legion branch on Bremner Avenue) and at the City of Red Deer Seniors Information Fair on the 29th (at the Collicutt Centre) ... please pop by and say hello to our board members and have a chat about how Meals on Wheels might fit into your life--whether as a client or as a volunteer!

Today is Kickoff Day for the United Way's annual campaign!

The United Way of Central Alberta is a major funder of our Meals on Wheels program, and we literally cannot imagine our world without them in it🤗 Please take a few minutes in the coming weeks to find out about all of the ways that the United Way impacts our community (hint: there are LOTS!) and about how you might be able to help them meet their fundraising goals for the year. Their generous support of our program allows us to offer hot, healthy meals delivered by volunteers to thousands of doorsteps every year at a subsidized rate, and we know our clients and their families are truly appreciative of the care from our community and from the United Way💓

Red Deer Meals on Wheels would like to acknowledge a generous gift given to our program by Douglas and Lynn Stubbs in memory of Art Stubbs, a long time volunteer and board member for MOW. We are so appreciative to be the recipient of this token of remembrance, and we look back with fondness and gratitude to all of Art's years spent in support of our program ❤️

All too often, while we're in conversation with one of our clients, they apologize to us ... for being slow in answering the door, for being hard of hearing, for being on a 'special' diet, for being an inconvenience. And every time, our reply is the same: You absolutely are NOT an inconvenience--that's what we're here for!!

Our volunteers are awesomely patient and often go out of their way to help clients be successful in our service, and our office staff are old pros at figuring out how to adapt to individual needs. And if any of us have concerns or need support, there are procedures in place to help find a resolution to any issue we might encounter. But a client being an inconvenience is emphatically not a problem we recognize!!

So, please, give us a call if you think you (or a loved one) might benefit from a little bit of extra assistance ... we'd be happy to do our best to help!

Volunteers all need to tell you about their upcoming days off? Boss away? First you try to intimidate them into not going on vacation 🤨and then you cry a little 😭and then you cheer up when you realize that it is a problem for next week--when the boss is back and when you're gone on vacation yourself!! 😜

(No volunteers were harmed in the taking of this photo ... and the staff will bounce back 😉)
