This Sunday, June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. A time to recognize and honour the history, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, MΓ©tis, and Inuit Peoples across Canada.

Central Alberta is and has been home to First Nations and MΓ©tis Peoples long before Alberta became a province. We respectfully acknowledge that the city of Red Deer is located on Treaty 6 and 7 land, the traditional territory of the Cree to the north, the Blackfoot, Tsuut'ina and Stoney Nakoda to the south, and the MΓ©tis and Saulteaux Peoples. We honour these ancestral lands and the Indigenous Peoples who have lived here for millennia.

Here are some gatherings and activities that you can take part in:

The tipi is also open to the public, allowing visitors to view the artwork and experience the space.
