Hey Community,

Catch the UIVS team paired up with Otipemisiwak Métis District 3 down at Bower Ponds this Canada Day!

If you or someone you know, would like to feature their cultural crafts at our tables, or would be interested in walking the stage for the Indigenous Fashion show - then please reach out to us and let us know. We want to hear from you!

We're looking for community members to proudly model any ribbon skirts/shirts, beading, leatherwork, indigenized apparel and accessories (jewelry, shoes, bags) they have or have made, to join us on the stage for 2:30PM that day.

🌞 We're celebrating First Nations, Métis & Inuit Cultures Across Alberta NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY 2026

On Sunday, June 21, 2026, the longest day of the year, we celebrate to recognize the rich cultures, traditions, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples across Canada.

Hey Community,

In lieu of a September meeting, the UIVS Housing Domain has decided to host an evening of Community Connections and Conversation!

This is to publicly present their ongoing plans for "Empowering Advocacy for Equitable, Culturally Safe, and Inclusive Housing Solutions in Alberta for Indigenous Youth, Seniors, and Elders!"

Housing Domain will be taking questions and making notes of any feedback and suggestions given. We look forward to having this important discussion with our fellow community members over a shared supper of soup and bannock.

Please save the date and mark your calendars - a detailed agenda will be available in August. Open to all community members who want to know more and join this conversation!

✨City and Provincial Planning Presentation✨

Hey Community,

If you are wanting to know more about the HWY2 projects being planned, the Province will be holding public information sessions regarding these proposed improvements through the Red Deer area, including the potential replacement and realignment of the Red Deer River bridge affecting Maskepetoon Park and Heritage Ranch.

The information session is planned for this upcoming Thursday and there will be two presentations to choose from, both are the same - this is only to accommodate more community members wanting to attend and engage with them. Members from this project team will be onsite to answer your questions and respond to feedback.

Experience a nature walk on the land and hear teachings and stories directly from our Elders, before sharing a tasty BBQ lunch with them in the garden.

Please dress for time spent outdoors, bring your water bottle and notebook, and your appetite for knowledge and BBQ! It's sure to be a delightful summer day spent together in community.

Hey Community,

Do you have any left over project supplies kicking around in your garage, junk drawer, etc? If so the UIVS Parade Planning Committee would love to take it off your hands and help keep it out of the landfill!

Our team is currently looking for any possible donations of:
- Small to Medium pieces of lumber or plywood
- Any kind of paint, in any colour
- Paint brushes and rollers, in any sizes or textures
- Painters tape, electrical tape, packing tape
- Rope, string, yarn, in any sizes, colours, or textures
- Clothing or raw material, in any shade of blue or white, any sizes or textures.

If you're able to drop off, please bring it to the UIVS office at your earliest convenience. If you aren't able to drop off, please contact UIVS Jamie by phone or email and we will try to arrange a speedy pickup! To help us spread the word, please like and share this post if possible. Want to learn more about medicine teachings for to***co and how to plant, care for, and harvest it? Join the UIVS and Common Ground team members as they once again join forces for our annual to***co planting and you can learn hands-on as we prepare for the next years ceremonial medicine supply.

All are welcome!
