Join Us for a Special Harvest Lunch & Medicine Wheel Ceremony

On Sunday, September 20, we invite community to gather with UIVS and ReThink Red Deer for our annual Harvest Gathering-and to say farewell to our beloved Common Ground Garden at Capstone.

For the past four years, Common Ground has been so much more than a garden to our Indigenous Community. It has been a place where our Indigenous community came together to plant, learn, share food, pass on teachings, build relationships, and reconnect with the land.

As the Capstone property is for sale and the community garden prepares to move to the JJ Gaetz area, we will gather for a special ceremony with Elder Beverly Keeshig-Soonias to put our Medicine Wheel Garden to sleep. It will rest until the time comes to replant it at the proposed Indigenous Culture Centre- a place where these and other medicines can continue to grow for future generations.

Please join us as share a meal, honour this special place and look ahead to a new beginning.

A free baked potato bar will be provided.

Community members are invited to bring a potluck dish to share and register their item through Perfect Potluck.

✨UPCOMING FREE COMMUNITY EVENT✨

Hey Community,

UIVS Culture Domain is once again gearing up to host their annual Indigenous Market here in Red Deer. This is an open call for FNMI artists and vendors who would like to be a part of this event.

There are no registration fees, and no vendor fees, for this one day market.

Last year, we were joined by Indigenous artisans from all over Alberta, as well as some from Vancouver and Victoria. Multiple booths showcasing beading of all kinds, tufting and leatherwork, ribbon skirts and shirts, custom printed shirts and sweaters, digital designs for stickers, stationery & accessories, Indigenous themed gift baskets, baked bannock & fry bread, assorted soups, stews & salads - you name it, we had it, and we'd love to see an even bigger turnout this year!

So whether your style is more traditional or more contemporary, we'd love to have you join us - secure your booth for the Indigenous Market today!

We’re hopeful that we’ll have more cucumbers on Friday, and if we do, I’ll post and let everyone know!

Thank you SO much for the incredible response and for helping us rescue all of this food. 🥒💚

While supplies last!!! 🥒 WE HAVE CUCUMBERS… 7,000 LBS OF THEM! 🥒
