Red Deer continues to grow as a diverse, welcoming and vibrant community.
Today, we celebrated a truly special milestone- 122 new Canadians representing 30 countries proudly took their Oath of Citizenship. A proud and life- changing moment that strengthens the sense of belonging and open the door to new opportunities.
We're grateful to Immigration, Refugees and Citizendhip Canada (IRCC) and the Government of Alberta for their continued support to make this meaningful event possible.
A huge thank you to our incredible guests (Judge James Clover, Mayor Cindy Jefferies, Donna Bishop, Kelley Arnold, Odie Padios, Tyler Wallace), to our amazing volunteers, Red Deer Polytechnic, and Juiced Events Inc., for helping us create such a warm, seamless, and memorable welcome.

Let’s continue building safer, more inclusive communities across Alberta.

Meet the RDLIP Team!

Vine Morrissette is the RDLIP Coordinator! Before making the move to Red deer, she was actively involved in various community initiatives in Lloydminster. As an immigrant herself, she brings not only valuable experience but also a deep sense of compassion and understanding for the newcomers journey.

Driven by a genuine desire to foster inclusion and belonging, she hopes to help bridge the gap between newcomers and the broader community. Guided by the principle of the golden rule-- “ Do unto others as you would have do unto you”-- she believes that even a small gestures, like a kind word or a warm smile, can leave a lasting impact.

Her vision is clear: to help build a community where support, empathy and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do.

Hiring decisions are not always based solely on skills or experience. Research shows that employers are significantly more likely to interview applicants with English-sounding names, even when education, qualifications, and work history are identical. This highlights how bias can influence decisions before a candidate is ever met.

Understanding how unconscious and systemic bias operates in hiring helps explain why unequal outcomes persist. Recognizing these patterns is an important step toward creating fairer recruitment practices and more equitable access to employment opportunities.
