Noons Creek Hatchery is a 100% volunteer-operated salmon hatchery, water quality testing and environmental education facility.

Our big salmon thief😱

A major diet for a Black Bear are salmon, since we are still in salmon season, bears are doing their hunting. Make sure to be on the lookout and be careful.

Over the past week, our Chum salmon have returned and from the salmon we collected 49,174 eggs.
You will be able to release them during the Fingerling Festival in May. But for now, they are in the care of our volunteers.

From two female and two males, we got 4,076 eggs. 😱
The chum season is over, but Coho is still here and waiting to spawn.

This video was taken by a volunteer on National Truth and Reconciliation Day. These Coho and Chum left our creek the next day. But after good rainfall, the salmon have finally returned to spawn.

Hussein Janmohamed, Instructor of CapU Choirs at Capilano University lend his voice in recitation of his friend, Russel Wallace song, The Gift, in remembrance and reflection for Truth and Reconciliation.

is of Lil’wat First Nation

Russell Wallace is an award-winning composer, producer and traditional singer from the Lil’wat Nation. His music can be heard on soundtracks for film, television and theatre/dance productions across Canada and the U.S. Wallace is one of the founding members of the Aboriginal Writers Collective West Coast and is an alumnus of the UBC Creative Writing program. Wallace has written poetry, short fiction, theatre, and music theatre. Wallace was the artist in residence at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival in 2019, a guest programmer for Word Vancouver and was the artistic director for the Aboriginal Electronic Music Festival for a number of years.

Dr. Hussein Janmohamed is a conductor, educator and community facilitator. he conducts CapU Choirs at Capilano University. He creates opportunities to singing together to create space to listen, to share our stories, to encounter difference with curiosity, and to discover what we can hold in common.

Today, September 30, we pause to listen, learn, and reflect on the resilience and leadership of Indigenous Communities.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity to reflect on the past and consider how we can contribute to meaningful reconciliation through our ongoing work to restore and protect B.C.’s fish, wildlife, and habitats.

A heartfelt thank you to Ed Hall of Kwikwetlem First Nation for sharing his story and to POMO Arts for hosting Relational Folds.

We honour the 94 Calls to Action and recognize that reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility. Today, and throughout the year, we remain committed to listening, learning, building respectful relationships, and taking meaningful action.

Noons Creek Hatchery will be hosting Truth and Reconciliation gathering on Wednesday, September 30th 2026, from 11am-1pm.

Our guest speak will be Ed Hall from Kwikwetlem First Nations.

PoMoArts will be leading Relational Folds, an art activity founded in mindful origami practice. And they will also be leading Origami Orange Shirt art activity that brings our histories, intentions, and future actions into focus.
