Big news on four wheels! 🛞 🚙

We had our previous van since 2004, and it’s been good to us. It helped move hundreds of young people out of unsafe situations, and into a new chapter of their lives. It made 1000s of trips taking youth to appointments, group hikes in the forest, to school, to work. Once per week it delivered food boxes to youth and families without transportation, and it travelled down George St the Pride Parade every year.

And after all that time, this spring it started to give up.

Enter a generous community member, who wishes to stay anonymous. This kind soul offered to replace our old red van with another that would help us transport youth and families for another 20 years. We are so grateful to this person - for years he has been a community champion for us in more ways than one and we are over the moon about this new vehicle.

Thanks to our champion, here’s to another 20 years of showing up for youth, wherever they need to go.

Check out some of the new art that is hanging in our shelter dining room!

Last night, our shelter staff brought out the brushes and the results were stunning - beautiful art, even more beautiful moments together.

The results? Amazing.

Every canvas told a story, and every brushstroke was a reminder that creativity, connection, and a little bit of colour can go a long way 🎨

Trent Valley Honda is hosting a Charity Food Truck Event this Saturday, June 20th, from 9am to 1pm - and money raised will be coming to YES!

June is Indigenous History Month.

Youth and staff participated in Red Dress Day, learned deer hide scraping at Tecasy Ranch, and transformed those hides into rattles — all before wrapping up the week at the Hiawatha Pow Wow. We're also looking forward to a Ribbon Skirt/Shirt making workshop coming up soon!

Reconciliation means more than acknowledgment — it means learning, listening, and showing up. The best way to deepen your understanding of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures is through their own voices:

📖 Read books by Indigenous authors
🎶 Listen to music by Indigenous artists
🎬 Watch films and performances
📱 Follow First Nations, Inuit, and Métis creators on social media
🤝 Attend community events and gatherings

Every act of learning is a step toward reconciliation. 🧡
