Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre is a community based, independent, not for profit organization serving the needs of cancer patients, their families, and caregivers within the Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny and Tay Townships. A short walk around the block made a big impact!

We had some special visitors from our neighbourhood recently, as students and staff from Burkevale Protestant Separate School in Penetanguishene walked over to the GBCSC to present a cheque for $509.21! The funds were raised through the school's Terry Fox Run in September, with students and staff coming together to support those impacted by cancer in our community.

It's especially meaningful to receive this kind of support from a school right in our own neighbourhood. Thank you to everyone at Burkevale for thinking of the GBCSC and choosing to make a difference so close to home!

What an incredible weekend of pickleball, community, and plenty of pink!

On October 17 & 18, players came together at Summit Pickleball Club - Collingwood for our Paint the Town Pink Pickleball Tournament, bringing some friendly competition to the courts while raising awareness and supporting local cancer support throughout Southern Georgian Bay.

It was amazing to see so many participants dressed in pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, showing their support for the friends, family, and neighbours in our community who are facing or have faced breast cancer.

A special thank you to our Tournament Sponsor, IWA Spa Blue Mountain Village , for their generous support, and to Summit Pickleball for hosting the event and helping bring our community together for such a meaningful weekend. We also want to recognize everyone who participated, supported the tournament, and helped make the event a success! Events like these help ensure that the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre can continue providing programs and services at no cost to our Members across Southern Georgian Bay.

Together, we're making a difference both on and off the court, and we couldn't have done it without you!

Behind every number is a person, a story, and a reason to keep going.

Of the 880 Members at the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre, 184 are living with or have experienced breast cancer. That's more than one in five of the people who turn to the GBCSC for connection, understanding, and support. They are mothers, sisters, grandmothers, wives, partners, aunts, and nieces. They are our friends, neighbours, coworkers, and the people we love and care about. Each has their own experiences, challenges, and milestones, and each deserves care, compassion, and community.

As we Paint the Town Pink this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're reminded of why this campaign matters. Every pumpkin purchased, every Community Partner involved, and every donation made helps ensure that free programs and services remain available to those who need them.

We do this for 184 reasons, and for every Member and family whose life has been touched by cancer.

Because behind every number is someone who matters.

What a difference a day of teamwork can make!

Our Garden of Hope in Penetanguishene received some much-needed attention today during Mulch Day 2026, thanks to the incredible efforts of our Garden Committee members and volunteers! We're so grateful to everyone who came out, rolled up their sleeves, and contributed to another successful day in the garden.

A special thank you to our Garden Committee for the time, care, and dedication they put into maintaining this beautiful space throughout the year. Their ongoing efforts help make the Garden of Hope such a special place for our Members, visitors, and the entire GBCSC community.

There's still time to grab a pair of Cancer Socks and support the GBCSC!

As part of this year's Paint the Town Pink campaign, Scott Glover's Cancer Socks are now available at half price until the end of October! Created to provide comfort to those facing cancer, these socks have become another way to give back, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the free programs and services offered by the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre.

Cash purchases are available directly at the GBCSC, 45 Edward Street in Penetanguishene. Stop by before the end of the month to pick up a pair!

Join us on Friday, October 30 at 12:30 pm at the GBCSC in Penetanguishene for an Ancestor Feast, featuring Three Sisters Soup, Lye Corn and Ham Soup, and other delicious items.

This special gathering will celebrate traditional foods and the connections they create between culture, community, and generations. Three Sisters Soup brings together corn, beans, and squash, three crops traditionally grown together by many Indigenous communities, each offering important nutrients and carrying cultural significance.

Before lunch, join us at 11:30 am for Cancer Talks with Kathryn Lovelady, who will share Fall Harvest Teachings, exploring the traditions, knowledge, and connections associated with this time of year.

Soup for the Soul is also a wonderful opportunity for new Members or anyone considering becoming a Member to visit the Centre. Join us for a meaningful gathering, connect with others, and learn more about the programs and support available at the GBCSC.

A cancer diagnosis can change so much, bringing questions, uncertainty, and challenges that extend far beyond medical treatment.

Having someone to talk to, connecting with others who understand, or simply finding a place where you feel supported can make a meaningful difference throughout that journey. At the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre, we believe no one should have to face cancer alone. Through free programs and services, we provide emotional, physical, and social support to Members and their families, creating opportunities for connection, understanding, and belonging.

As we continue to Paint the Town Pink this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're reminding our community that support is available, whether you're newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, navigating recovery, or supporting someone you love.

The Garden of Hope is getting ready for winter, and we could use a few extra helping hands!

Our Garden Committee is looking for volunteers to join us on Tuesday, October 27, as we prepare the Garden of Hope at the GBCSC in Penetanguishene for the colder months ahead. We'll be spreading mulch throughout the garden, and no gardening experience is necessary! All you need is a willingness to lend a hand and some weather-appropriate clothing.

We're hoping to get as many helping hands out in the morning as possible, so whether you can spare an hour or stay a little longer, your help will make a difference. With enough volunteers, we can make quick work of getting the garden ready for its winter rest!

Join us at 45 Edward Street in Penetanguishene on Tuesday morning and help our Garden Committee wrap up another beautiful season in the Garden of Hope! Water and treats will be provided to keep everyone refreshed throughout the morning.
