Today is World Mental Health Day!🌎💙💚

Mental health matters to everyone, everywhere, and today reminds us that supporting mental health and well-being is a shared responsibility that extends beyond a single day.

At The Canadian Foundation for Animal-Assisted Support Services (CF4AASS), we recognize the powerful connections between people, animals, and the environments we share. Through the principles of One Health, we acknowledge that human health, animal welfare, and community well-being are deeply interconnected.

From the companionship of pets to the valuable contributions of service animals and animal-assisted programs, the human-animal bond can play an important role in supporting mental health, reducing isolation, and enhancing quality of life.

Promoting mental health also means creating environments where everyone feels safe, respected, included, heard, and supported. 💚🐾💙

Dogs at desks are becoming a normal part of the workday.

Companies across Europe and Asia are expanding pet-friendly office policies, citing improved morale, reduced stress and stronger workplace culture. For some employees, being able to bring a dog to work has also removed barriers around long hours and caregiving.

Experts say the shift reflects changing attitudes toward pets — increasingly seen as family members rather than accessories — as workplaces rethink flexibility after years of change.

For more than a century, dogs have had to watch their humans enjoy Girl Scout Cookies. In 2027, they finally get a treat of their own. 🐶🍪

The Girl Scouts having been selling cookies for over 109 years and now are teaming up with BARK to launch Patch Pals™, the organization’s first-ever cookie created specifically for dogs.

The soft-baked treats are blueberry muffin-flavored and were inspired by the Girl Scouts’ love for their dogs and the special bond between people and their pups.

Each treat features one of four “patch” designs representing iconic Girl Scout experiences, giving pups their own little taste of cookie season.

The Girl Scouts have been selling cookies since 1917, but 2027 will mark the first time the iconic tradition includes a box made especially for the four-legged members of the family.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation🧡, we honour survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities. We also remember the children who never made it home.

At CF4AASS, we recognize the importance of listening, learning, and supporting healing.

We invite everyone to take time today to not only remember but to reflect, learn, and act toward truth and reconciliation.

More information, learning resources, mental health supports, and calls to action can be found here: https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/national-day-truth-reconciliation.html, as well as resources and information from the Canadian Resource Centre for Victims of Crime here: https://crcvc.ca/our-focus/truth-and-reconciliation/ #:~:text=Understanding%20Reconciliation,in%20Canada's%20colonial%20legal%20system.
