This teach-in explores how the Canadian government protects Canadian foreign investors like mining companies in Latin America. It is an introduction to a pesky colonialist tool called "Investor-State Dispute Settlement" (ISDS), which poses serious obstacles to climate and environmental justice, Indigenous sovereignty, corporate accountability, and efforts to defend the public interest.

As part of the Global Days of Action against ISDS taking place in cities and countries around the world, we will launch newly released case studies on Canada’s ISDS footprint in Latin America and join the global call for an ISDS-free world.

Le mois dernier, le premier ministre Mark Carney a annoncé que son gouvernement allait « éliminer » le Bureau de l’ombudsman canadien de la responsabilité des entreprises (OCRE). Il s’agit de la plus récente décision d’une véritable vague de lois et de politiques qui affaiblissent les protections fondamentales en matière de droits de la personne et d’environnement au profit de puissantes multinationales.

Passez à l’action et dites au premier ministre qu’il est temps de renforcer le Bureau de l’OCRE: l’éliminer est une erreur. Il ne faut même pas une minute pour envoyer votre message.

Last month, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced his government would “eliminate” the office of the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE): the latest move in a tsunami of new laws and policies that roll back basic human rights and environmental protections to the benefit of powerful multinational corporations.

Take action and tell the Prime Minister to empower the CORE, not eliminate it. Your action takes less than a minute!
