We’re pleased to share the WPSN-C Strategic Priorities: 2026 and Beyond. 🕊️

For the first time, our Network has developed and publicly shared a set of strategic priorities outlining our collective direction for the coming years. This effort reflects our ongoing commitment to transparency, reflection, and collaborative advocacy.

The priorities are the result of a consultation process with members from September to November 2025, which helped identify realistic and sustainable areas of focus for a volunteer-driven network operating in a complex global and national policy environment.

The document outlines:

1️⃣ Short-term priorities for 2026, including strengthening internal coordination, supporting member-led advocacy, and maintaining targeted engagement with policymakers.

2️⃣ Longer-term directions through 2030, focused on sustaining WPSN-C as a credible feminist policy voice, strengthening collaboration across communities, and building modest infrastructure to support the Network’s continued work.

By sharing these priorities publicly, we hope to encourage greater transparency, collective engagement, and collaboration across the community in Canada and beyond.

We’re pleased to share our 2025 Year in Review! 📄📣

2025 unfolded in a global context marked by escalating armed conflict, shrinking civic space, and growing polarization. As the world marked the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, the year invited reflection on both the progress made and the persistent gaps in advancing the agenda.

In this context, WPSN-C continued to serve as a volunteer-driven space for feminist analysis, dialogue, and policy engagement in Canada. Throughout the year, members contributed to publications, policy briefs, parliamentary engagement, and international exchanges while strengthening collaboration across civil society, academia, and policy communities.

Highlights from 2025 include:

✅ The publication of WPS at 25 and Canada’s CNAP3: Feminist Reflections on Progress and Gaps

✅ A policy brief on strengthening engagement between the Government of Canada and civil society representatives

✅ International exchanges supporting the development and implementation of WPS National Action Plans

✅ Parliamentary engagement to revitalize Canada’s commitment to WPS

✅ Continued growth of the Network and strengthened knowledge exchange among members

WPSN-C remains proudly volunteer-driven, sustained by members who contribute their time, expertise, and care to advancing feminist peace and security in Canada and beyond.

This year’s commemoration takes place amid a troubling global context. Armed conflicts are intensifying, violence continues to affect communities across many regions, and hard-won gains on gender equality are facing growing backlash. In these conditions, the agenda remains an important framework for understanding how inclusive approaches to peace and security can contribute to more just and sustainable outcomes.

Across the Network, members continue to research, advocate, organize, and support efforts that centre women’s participation and leadership in peace and security processes.

Today (and every day), let’s acknowledge the ongoing work of those advancing the WPS agenda—often in complex and challenging contexts—and the continued importance of protecting civic space and supporting gender-responsive approaches to peace and security.

Submitted!! 📕🎉

The full manuscript of our collaborative edited volume — under the leadership of Katrina Leclerc, Nisha Singh, and Shirley Graham — has officially been submitted.

We are proud to share that “Women, Peace and Security in Canada and the United States: A Fragmented Peace” is forthcoming with in 2026.

This volume brings together leading scholars and practitioners from both sides of the border to critically examine the evolution, fragmentation, and future of the agenda in Canada and the United States. At a time of political polarization, democratic backsliding, and shifting security priorities, this collection asks what it means to advance WPS across deeply interconnected yet distinct national contexts.

We look forward to sharing more updates soon — and to welcoming this important contribution to the field in 2026.

WPSN Chair Katrina Leclerc, member Ellen Woodsworth of , and co-director Megan MacKenzie joined and for the 2026 Dr. Richard Splane Lecture in Social Policy, marking the 25th anniversary of the agenda.

It was a thought-provoking evening, grounded in reflection on how far we have come — and, importantly, on where we must go next if research, advocacy, and policy are to truly meet this moment and realize the transformative potential of the WPS resolutions.
