Help co-create the COSEA marine citizen science App!

The COSEA App, a project endorsed by the Ocean Decade, is designed as an open platform for project collaboration where initiatives, organizations, science projects or small groups of ocean activists can join up and co-use the app toolkit to co-create COSEA together.

As the app is currently in the first prototype phase, COSEA is holding an open co-creation call for independent initiatives, projects, and regional groups that do not have the resources for building and running their own interactive and privacy-safe citizen science apps.

The App is running on the SPOTTERON Citizen Science App Platform and is the outcome of two Horizon Europe programmes: EFFECTIVE and TRANSEATION.

Canada has committed to zero plastic waste. Are we on track?🔎

Canada has introduced important strategies and initiatives to reduce plastic pollution and move toward a circular plastics economy. ♻ However, more data, monitoring, and action are needed to understand whether current efforts are enough to reach Canada's 2030 zero plastic waste goal. 🌱

As Plastic Free July comes to an end, we’re highlighting Canada’s approach to plastic pollution, the work still needed to turn commitments into meaningful action, and the role of RCEN’s Toxics Caucus in advancing pollution prevention.

🌎 How does plastic end up in our environment?

Plastic pollution isn't only made up of visible waste like bottles and bags. It can also include smaller particles, such as microplastics from the breakdown of larger plastics and everyday sources like synthetic fibres. From shorelines and oceans to soil and wildlife, plastic pollution is a growing environmental challenge. 🌊🐾

This Plastic Free July, we're highlighting the issue of plastic pollution and its impacts on the environment. RCEN members across Canada are contributing to solutions through advocacy, research, education, and community initiatives. 🤝

Science and evidence are essential to turning global biodiversity commitments into action on the ground.

The Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, known as SBSTTA, supports Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity by providing scientific, technical and technological advice.

At , Parties will consider key issues linked to the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework — from monitoring and the global review, to business and biodiversity, synthetic biology, sustainable wildlife management, protected and conserved areas and marine and coastal biodiversity.

The outcomes of these discussions will help inform recommendations for . Stronger biodiversity action depends on sound science, reliable evidence and practical tools for implementation.
