🗓️ August CAP Update 🗓️

It's been another busy month for your 2027 Adjudication Core, with lots of work going on getting ready for Ottawa WUDC and continuing to judge at a number of competitions around the world!

🚨 Extended Drop Deadline Approaching 🚨

As described in our registration policy, we are offering an extended drop deadline for institutions who come from visa required countries.

That deadline is September 1, 2026.

Please reach out to the convenors at [email protected] if you would like to drop your slots.

After this, we will not be able to guarantee a refund. We will attempt to give refunds where possible and prioritize assisting teams in selling their slots, rather than accepting more teams directly.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee refunds after September 1, as we have committed money to the hotel, IAs, and other costs that are non-refundable.

We understand that the visa process is extremely stressful, and we want to do everything we can to support those who require visas. If you have concerns about this policy, please reach out to us.

✨ Feedback on Equity Officer Nominees Now Open ✨

The Ottawa WUDC CAP has nominated a fantastic set of folks to be Equity Officers at WUDC.

We’ll be opening retrospective feedback on these candidates for one week, until 20 August.

Community feedback plays an important role in ensuring our nominees are strong representatives of the debating community. We welcome all feedback on these nominees.

🎉 Registration Scholarship Opportunity 🎉

We’re excited to share that we’ve received sponsorship for an individual registration waiver for a team consisting of two women.

If you previously applied for a scholarship but were not selected, and the team you would send meets the eligibility requirements for this opportunity, please reach out to our Scholarship Committee at [email protected]

Eligibility Requirements: This scholarship requires that both members of the team are women. To recieve this scholarship, you must commit to sending a team of two women. The scholarship team will consider the same factors as they have previously when determining scholarships which include the cost for that institution to travel to WUDC, the purchasing power of the country from which the institution is from, individual financial circumstances of members planning to attend WUDC, historical attendance at WUDC, and potential benefits from WUDC attendance for that institution, country or region.

We hope this makes debate more accessable to women from underrepresented circuits.

🍁 Visa Update 🍁

We understand the process of visa applications with the IRCC is complicated, long and frustrating. We are incredibly sorry for this, and we want to continue to help as much as we can.

If you are a debater applying from countries in Africa and the Middle East, Pakistan, or Bangladesh, please contact the Visa Team for document review ASAP. We will provide comprehensive document review and can support through your entire application.

We know that many of you already know this information and are working hard on providing the strongest possible visa application, but for those who are less familiar with the Canada visa application process, we want to help where we can

We remain committed to funding visa fees for reapplications as well. You can speak to us about that via the same email as above.

🍁 Adjudication Core Announcement 🍁

The Adjudication Core would like to update the community on developments within the CAP for Ottawa WUDC 2027.

Sajid Asbat Khandaker will not be able to attend WUDC in person for an unforeseen family medical emergency. Sajid will continue to serve in his role as Chief Adjudicator in the lead up to Ottawa WUDC and will serve as an advisor over the course of the tournament. We have asked former WUDC CA and DCA Juanita Hincapié Restrepo to assist us during Ottawa WUDC with draw and other logistics.

A special meeting of WUDC Council will be also be organised shortly for Country Representatives to ask any questions. More information will be sent to representatives by the WUDC Council Chair.

🇦🇺 Announcement: Convening Team Addition 🇦🇺

We are excited to announce that Robert Barrie is joining Anais, Emily and Yueqian on the Convening Team for Ottawa WUDC 2027!

Fresh off convening Wollongong Australs 2026, Robert brings with him a wealth of experience in convening and in the international debating space.

Robert will be looking after competition focused convening activities, such as individual registration, communication, and liaising between the various WUDC teams.

We're grateful to Robert for coming on board to help us out, and look forward to working with him in the lead up to WUDC!

Edit: Robert will be joining the convening team. He will not be the Convenor.

🗓️ July Adj Core Update 🗓️

It's been a busy month for our Adjudication Core, with competitions happening all over the world, and plenty of ongoing work on the WUDC Manual and Independent Adjudicator offers!

We're getting closer and closer to WUDC starting - hope you're all as excited as we are!

☀️ Ottawa Summer 2026 Wrap-Up ☀️

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported Ottawa Summer 2026! We'd especially like to thank those Independent Adjudicators who donated their IA subsidies, and those who donated without attending!

As a result of those efforts, we were able to raise a huge $6,819.57 CAD for the Ottawa WUDC 2027 Scholarship Fund!

We were also able to welcome 18 teams to Ottawa Summer on registration waivers!

We hope you all enjoyed Ottawa Summer, and can't wait to welcome you to Ottawa WUDC!
