💙 May is Asthma Awareness Month 💙

This May, BC Lung is proud to join Asthma Canada as an official Asthma Awareness Month partner, helping raise awareness about asthma attacks, how to recognize them, and what to do if they happen.

This year, the message is simple: asthma attacks are not always predictable and can worsen quickly. Recognizing the signs and responding fast could save a life.

If an asthma attack happens, remember C.A.R.E.:
C- Calm: Keep them calm and reassure them
A – Air: Sit them upright and encourage slow, steady breathing
R - Rescue Inhaler: Help them find and use their rescue inhaler (usually blue)
E – Emergency: Call 911 if there is no inhaler available or no improvement after use

✨Carters Camp✨ 100 Mile House BC

On July 11, 2023 we tragically lost our son Carter to an asthma attack exacerbated by wildfire smoke, he was just 9 years old.

We have since started Carters Project alongside the BC Lung Foundation to bring air quality monitors to towns across BC that don’t have them. And this year we are starting Carters Camp, an asthma camp for children aged 8-11 to come and learn about their asthma, the triggers, how to correctly use their inhaler and have fun, while making new friends.

This is a 2 day camp and if you reside 75km+ away, there is a travel subsidy provided. So please, follow the link and register if you think your child would be a good fit for this camp. And please share this!
