As of Monday, March 16th, 2026 Cuba’s power grid collapsed due to US aggression and sanctions. The US has effectively orchestrated a humanitarian crisis where people are cut off from access to food, water, fuel, medicine, and electricity. Furthermore, the US continues to threaten Cuba’s sovereignty with overt remarks of “taking Cuba” for their own in a “friendly takeover”, and in Trump’s latest act of intimidation and abuse of power, has attempted to deter countries from providing Cubans with supplies by threatening more tariffs.

This is more than politics. This is economic warfare.

As labour activists and allies, we denounce these threats to Cuba’s right to self-determination and
recognize the catastrophe that these cruel acts of aggression have caused. Labour has long been an advocate for human rights, and so long as the US continues to trample on the liberties and well-being of people, we commit to using our platform and resources to advocate for change and to provide relief.

Here’s how we can help:
Containers 4 Cuba is providing emergency relief and medical supplies to Cuba. Tax deductible donations can be made by e-transfer to
[email protected]

Access to medical supplies and food are in severe shortage. Support international relief organizations like the Canadian Red Cross to deliver necessities.

Sign and share the petition to urge support from the Canadian government.

Join a rally to stand with Cuba on Sunday, March 29.

If you have any other ideas on how to provide assistance and solidarity, please reach out to
[email protected], and let us help amplify your resources.

An injury to one is an injury to all. End the blockade now.

In solidarity and struggle,

This is genocide, stop starving Gaza!

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL), Canada’s largest provincial labour federation representing over one million workers, recognizes what is happening in Gaza for what it is: genocide.
Following the October 7 attacks, we called for an immediate ceasefire, the restoration of humanitarian aid, and the safe and immediate return of all hostages and civilians being held without charge. Since then, over 60,000 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds of thousands more have been wounded, missing, and displaced. Entire neighbourhoods have been reduced to rubble. Civilians are being starved in what Human Rights Watch now confirms is a deliberate campaign of extermination.
This is not a humanitarian crisis, it is a famine manufactured by the Israeli government. It is not a “conflict” or war: it is colonial violence and genocide.
From the frontlines of the anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa to solidarity with workers around the world, Canada’s labour movement has a proud legacy of confronting injustice. That legacy demands we act with the same clarity and courage today.
We endorse Canadian Labour Congress President Bea Bruske’s letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney urging the federal government to move beyond statements and take immediate action. We echo those demands and further call for:
• An immediate and permanent arms embargo on Israel
• Formal recognition of the State of Palestine by the Canadian government
• Sanctions against the Israeli government for violations of international law
• An end to Canada’s diplomatic and economic support for Israeli apartheid
• Immediate action by the United Nations to formally recognize the genocide in Gaza and to hold Israeli officials accountable through the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), to which Canada is a signatory, under the Genocide Convention
The international community and several G7 nations are beginning to demand immediate action:
• UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the United Kingdom will recognize the State of Palestine by September unless Israel takes “substantive steps” toward ending its war on Gaza
• French President Emmanuel Macron has confirmed France’s intention to recognize Palestine as a state
• On June 7, 2025, The International Labour Conference recognized Palestine as an Observer state
Canada must respond with similar urgency. Although the Canadian government has publicly denied sending arms to Israel, investigative reports have revealed that Canadian-made weapons parts and military components have continued to flow, often indirectly, into Israel’s war machine.
We join the International Trade Union Confederation to also condemn the violent assault on labour leader Chris Smalls, who was detained and brutalized by Israeli forces aboard the Handala Flotilla. This was not an isolated incident: it is part of a broader campaign to silence dissent and criminalize workers who show solidarity in the face of injustice. Trade unionists fight for more than wages: we fight for justice, dignity, and human rights. Solidarity means speaking out when it matters most.
This is a moment of moral clarity. The OFL calls on labour organizations across the country to join us in demanding immediate and decisive action.
History will remember who had the courage to speak out against injustice, and who chose the comfort of their silence.

COPE Local 343 stands with Palestine activists and their tireless efforts to uncover the findings outlined in the Exposing Canadian Military Exports to Israel report, released today, July 29, 2025. Amidst a catastrophic, Level 5 state of forced starvation and the severe limiting of aid flow into Gaza, Israeli import data and public records can confirm Canada’s ongoing role in supplying military goods, technology, and supplies to Israel, despite denial since January 2024.

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, PM Mark Carney acknowledged Israel’s “violation of international law”. By continuously aiding and abetting Israel’s assault on Palestine, Canadians– and Canadian workers in turn– have been unknowingly made an accomplice to this violation.

We are all implicated. In every part of this process– from the production of goods, to the transportation of military cargo on commercial passenger flights– Canadian bodies have been used to help facilitate a “humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions”.

Labour cannot stand by. In the face of genocide and state-sanctioned war crimes, silence does not indicate neutrality. It indicates complicity. Beyond the monumental detriment to the people of Palestine, complacency in this crisis means compromising every value that labour is built on. Labour’s strength has always been our ability to stand for what is right in the face of injustice. When we stay silent, we willingly erode the very fabric of our movement. What meaning does ‘solidarity’ have if there are conditions to our advocacy? What ground does labour have to stand on, if that ground only supports a select few?

The New Brunswick Federation of Labour has adopted a resolution calling on unions to refuse the handling of “hot cargo” bound for Israel, and we call on our labour allies, including the Ontario Federation of Labour to do the same. We stand with NDP MP Heather McPherson in the condemnation of the Liberal Government for continuously fueling these war crimes, and call on all labour allies and community organizations to condemn these acts as well, and join us in demanding an fulsome and immediate stop to all military exports to Israel.

By now, it is abundantly clear that transparency and meaningful action cannot take place without increasing public pressure. It is our duty and moral responsibility to keep that pressure going.

In Solidarity and Struggle,
