Empowering Independence Through First Aid Training

Employment First celebrates an inspiring group of individuals who took an important step toward greater independence and confidence by completing First Aid training.
It helps build confidence, encourages independence, and equips individuals with the ability to respond in emergencies and help others in need.

Through hands-on practice, participants gained valuable knowledge, including:
-How to respond to emergencies
-Basic life-saving techniques
-Staying calm and acting with confidence

This training empowers everyone to feel capable, included, and prepared. It also shows that with the right support and opportunities, everyone can learn essential skills and make a difference in their community.

"Cory - the Heart of Norman Ave and Connaught Ave"

Who is the best Crossing Guard in North Bay and Area? This was the question by FM Kiss 100.5 North Bay.

There was some fierce competition throughout the city, and even within the Employment First program, as we support four individuals whom are employed by the City of North Bay, with all four receiving nominations.

When voting wrapped up, the city spoke, with Employment First’s, Cory Potter standing out from the rest, winning by a large margin. The community feedback described Cory as the happiest, funniest, and friendliest crossing guard around. Many shared how he shows up with a great attitude even on the worst weather days, proving just how much the community appreciates and embraces him.

The role of a crossing guard demands patience, awareness, and a calm presence, even in stressful situations. The job doesn’t stop for the weather; rain, snow, heat, and cold are all part of the routine. Cory takes pride in showing up every day, knowing that his reliability truly makes a difference.

Crossing guards are the heart of the school crossings, and as many residents put it, "Cory is the Heart of Norman Ave and Connaught Ave".
